Saturday 21st May 1988: Austria, Italy and Germany Tiny writing for today's entry- I was keen on hand writing back when I was 10, and a big reader- I'm impressed with my spelling! Anyway we were all very hands on with the day to day domestics while we were travelling. I don't suppose we cooked or cleared up particularly well but practice makes perfect and we had plenty of practice! "I got dressed and got up and mum gave us some crisps and I brushed my hair and watched two people playing tennis. Natty had a shower and mum made a cake. Daniel put the ducks legs up, and mum swept the floor. I put the rubbish bag in the bin in the car park and got Sams buggy in and put it in the shower. I got the cake out of the oven and we had a bit each. Mum gave us each 7 schillings and she drove us and Bike navigated the wrong way to the InterSpar". Today was also the famous day of the blue Smarties! This became history, the day we drove to Germany to buy blue Smarties- innocent times. "we drove for ages and ages then we came to a German border. We had to turn around but we stopped for something to eat. Bike and Nat went to a shop at the border to see if they took schillings and if they did, to buy some baccy, while mum made us bread and marmite, pate or tuna fish. Bike and Natty came back with baccy , papers and smarties. For pudding we had sweet bread and Marge and mad smarties, there were blue and bright pink and light orange. We turned round and drove back into Austria."
