For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to loose weight. The idea came when I started gaining weight and everyone around me started calling me names. Don't get me wrong. I wasn't bullied as a kid. Maybe because I'm not someone who can be bullied. It's just that here and there, people started teasing me. Not that I ever gave a damn about what people ever thought about me, but the healthy teasing soon started bothering me. However, it never bothered me enough to loose the weight. I've thought about it a lot. I've joined the gym and given up more times than I can count. It just seemed like I couldn't do it. So I kept on gaining the weight and the teasing kept on increasing. Of late, I've been trying to do it finally, because the weight seems like the biggest flaw I face in my daily life. So for the first time in my life, I actually go to the gym. I can see the small difference it has on my life. So today, I realized I don't really need to loose the weight. I'm going to do it to get rid of my personal insecurities but it's not something I NEED to do. It sucks that the world around me has made me and God knows how many people feel that way, but overweight is not a flaw. Obesity is a problem but overweight is not something that makes you less beautiful. It sucks that people here, in our culture don't understand the concept of body shaming and they feel that it's absolutely okay to tell someone they need to loose weight. It's equally harassing as to comment on someone's boobs or their dick size because the weight is also a part of their body. I've seen a lot of people hitting the gym and dieting and I've seen wonderous transitions and i'm so proud of all of them, but the fact that all of them thought that they needed to loose weight to be beautiful scares me. Because beauty isn't a number. It's not how much you weigh, it's not how old you are. We live in a culture which is progressing towards fitness and I'm glad to be a part of that but if fitness here means trying to avoid comments of family members and trying to fit in, then I don't think I'm a fan of the culture we live in. I just hope more people had the strength to say this.

It has taken a lot out of me to decide to post this picture. All my life I struggled with my weight and body positivity is the last thing I would ever think of partaking in. I always thought that I am a disgusting fat piece of crap. And unfortunately, that still hasn't changed. I have lost 40lb during the last 12 months and I still feel the same way. It's a struggle and a journey and it's not so easy to be body positive in this day and age. I admire everyone that is comfortable in their own skin and Happy with themselves❤️ why is this picture so important?
