One of these is not like the other... Pointed shoes deform your feet and lead to bunions, collapsed arches and many other foot pain presentations. It’s that simple . The foot is asymmetrical, should be widest at the tip of the toes and is adapted to stand on a flat surface. Why then are modern shoes made symmetrically with the tip of the toes ending in a narrow point? .....and an elevated heel? . The B1 boot (shoe on the right) is one of the most foot shaped, flexible and well crafted pieces of footwear I’ve worn to date. It’s why we created our partnership with @botyluks and why we plan to continue re-stocking these timeless pieces of footwear . Most people think bunion is caused by growth of the big bone. But in most cases bunion is growth of the first metatarsal/big bone in addition to subluxation/deviation of the first metatarsal/big bone. Bunion is not hereditary but the type of foot a person has is hereditary and certain types of foot have more chances of getting a bunion. Wearing certain types of shoes will increase the chances of getting a bunion. Bunion gets worse over time and it is very unlikely to go away. FLAT FEET – Exercises (tag a friend who needs this) -- My loneliness is killing me, I must confess… I have flat feet feeeeet! -- Anyways. I really do have flat feet. I must confess it’s true. -- And I beat up my big toe playing baseball and soccer while wearing poor cleats during middle school and high school. -- But I have never had plantar fasciitis. I occasionally had pain in my big toe while playing soccer in high school, but no major issues since then. -- I pay attention to the position of my foot because I want to avoid the formation of a bunion on my big toe or any foot issues. -- For me, the most important factor in maintaining my foot health has been improving the awareness of my foot position. At times, I catch myself standing with my arch completely collapsed. -- However, I can voluntarily raise my arch to reduce the strain on my plantar fascia and big toe. -- You may have read or heard me talk about the importance of changing your posture to avoid lower back pain. Or you may have heard the phrase, “Your next posture is your best posture.” -- Well, the same is true for the foot. It’s okay if you have flat feet. But it’s good to change your foot position. Raise your arch. Redistribute body weight to different portions of the foot. -- Keep moving. These are the principles that apply to injury management and it is no different for the foot. -- The exercises in this post show various foot and lower leg strengthening exercises. Practice raising your arch. Bring awareness to your foot. -- Be one step ahead of pain. -- Questions about flat feet? PLANTAR FASCIITIS (tag a friend with feet pain) -- What is the plantar fascia? -- The plantar fascia is strong connective tissue on the bottom of the foot that attaches from the toes to the heel. -- A classic sign of plantar fasciitis is having pain on the bottom of the heel where the plantar fasciia inserts on the heel. -- The plantar fascia can get strained for various reasons such as overloading it due to hip weakness, having a high BMI (non-athletic populations), decreased big toe mobility, and poor control of movements. The “causes” of plantar fasciitis is poorly understood in the research. -- If you want more information on plantar fasciitis, I have 3 articles on my websites discussing 3 signs of plantar fasciitis, 5 “causes” of plantar fasciitis, and 3 physical therapy exercises for plantar fasciitis. -- I also just released a YouTube video on plantar fasciitis yesterday. Check out the link in my BIO for the 8-minute YouTube video. -- The exercises in this post should be supervised by a rehab professional to monitor your response to the exercises. An assessment will help you determine which exercises will help you the most. -- With time and the proper implementation of exercises like the ones in this post, you can reduce pain, improve function, and get back to your favorite activities. -- More YouTube videos and articles on our website coming soon! -- PS. Videos 1 and 5 are the same. I accidentally posted the same video instead of the other video I had. My bad, I'll save it for another post on plantar fasciitis.

FIRST YOUTUBE VIDEO POSTED JUST NOW!! (share this 8-minute YouTube with someone you know dealing with plantar fasciitis) -– Link to the video in the BIO. -- In this YouTube video, I show you 3 classic signs of plantar fasciitis and 3 tests you can do at home to check for plantar fasciitis. -- What is the significance of these tests? -- It can be confusing to identify the source of your pain. The source of pain is often located in another area of the body. -- For example, irritation in the lower back can send pain to the bottom of your foot due to the distribution of pain signals. It is also possible to feel pain in the absence of any structural problem with the plantar fascia or foot. -- I believe these 3 signs of plantar fasciitis will paint a more clear picture of your symptoms. To confirm the diagnosis of plantar fasciitis, you should consult with your doctor or physical therapist. -- A skilled doctor or physical therapist can help you understand the contributing factors to your pain and develop a program to help you improve your function. -- What should you do if you have these 3 signs of plantar fasciitis? -- As mentioned above, there may be other sources of your pain. The presence of these 3 signs alone does not mean you have plantar fasciitis. -- If you have these 3 signs of plantar fasciitis then you should seek medical treatment from a physical therapist. -- Watch the full video and read the 3 articles on plantar fasciitis on my website to learn how to manage your foot pain better.
