There is so much benefit to a proper glute bridge, but unfortunately the benefits are often lost due to poor form. We're here to fix that today with a few quick corrections!

The most common mistakes we see in glute bridges are:
Rib cage flare
Arched lower back
Lack of hip extension

What we would like to see instead are:
Rib cage depressed
Neutral spine
Full hip extension

In order to get into a proper position, I did two things before bridging up:
1️⃣Fully exhaled to feel my rib cage depress down.
2️⃣Drove my heels hard into the ground to produce full hip extension while maintaining the ribs down position I attained from the exhale.

Keeping the ribs-down position as you drive your heels into the ground will help to avoid the third mistake of over-arching the lower back!

If you’ve been on Instagram for five minutes chances are you’ve had several videos of girls wearing tight pants & doing a “glute workout” shoved in your face. ♂️ But, did you know glutes are good for more than making random girls Instagram famous?

If you have hip pain, knee pain, back pain (like the sacroiliac pain we just talked about), want to squat ️♀️ heavier, run faster, jump higher, or just have a leg or two then strengthening the glutes will typically be beneficial
__
1️⃣ First though – let’s have a quick anatomy lesson
__
The “Glutes” collectively refer to three different muscles: The Gluteus Maximus (the biggest one) Gluteus Medius, and Gluteus Minimus
__
While we can get really detailed on which fibers of each muscle perform each action we don’t ♂️ need (or have the space) to do so in this post. Instead just know they primarily serve to
__
1️⃣ Extend the hip – or bring the thigh back behind the trunk
2️⃣ Abduct the hip – or bring the thigh out to the side of the torso
3️⃣ & 4️⃣ Internally rotate (turn the hip towards the body) or externally rotate (turn the hip away from the body) depending upon which position the hip is in to start

In addition, the glutes help posteriorly tilt the pelvis (reverse out of the anterior tilt we talked about yesterday) and the gluteus medius helps prevent your knees from caving inward – called valgus
__
️♀️ How do you train them? Well, as long as you do a lower body movement putting weight through your feet the glutes will be strengthened
__
However, if you want to focus more on the glute max you will benefit from hitting heavy hip extension based movements like the last 3 above (can also progress bridging to a hip thrust by elevating torso instead of feet as shown in the pic.) To target the glute medius (and minimus) hit combinations of hip abduction, external rotation and potentially extension like the first 4
