Here in the East Bay Area open space is disappearing FAST. Many of the beautiful open landscapes I enjoyed as a child are being threatened by development. To mitigate this, I have been fighting to preserve a parcel of land that is in the heart of Livermore’s alkali sink ecosystem. This habitat is extremely ecologically sensitive and is well-known for supporting some of the most rare and endangered flora California has to offer- not to mention CA tiger salamanders, western burrowing owls, CA red-legged frogs and a handful of other special status species! Currently, the team I am working with is challenging an EIR/development that was proposed for this parcel (Garaventa Hills). As you might imagine, there are costs associated with this process. If open space matters to you, please consider donating or sharing our story! Every share makes a difference! (Go fund me link in bio) 1. Downingia pulchella flying into the night 2. Western spadefoot toad 3. California tiger salamander 4. Western burrowing owl 5. A short video of the land (NE Livermore) If you’d like more information, or if you want a friend/guide to explore Livermore’s alkali ecosystem with- shoot me a DM!

Wandering garter from the southeastern sierras. This is a pure wandering garter, as opposed to the other garter I posted recently. #californiaherps #fieldherping #herping #herpetology #herps #snakes #thamnophis #gartersnake #photography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #nature #naturephotography #macrophotography #macro #canonglobal #canonphotography #canon #flipping #hiking #adventure

Found a sleepy Coast horned lizard yesterday evening in the San Luis Rey River watershed of San Diego County. This pic clearly shows the distinctive two rows of spiky scales on the edge of its body. #californiaherps #coasthornedlizard #phrynosomablainvilli

I got to try out my new flash set up on this northern pacific rattlesnake that was not in a great mood. I’m not in love with this shot but I’m happy with the lighting turnout so here you go. #lighting #flash #californiaherps #herping #herpetology #herpetofauna #herps #fieldherping #snakes #rattlesnakes #crotes #crotalus #venom #danger #photography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #nature #naturephotography #canonglobal #canonphotography #canon #macrophotography #macro #hiking #roadcrusing

Oh San Bernardino ring neck snake. When they are everywhere you don’t care for them, but when they are no where you’re like “ya I guess they are pretty sometimes”. but for real every year I get re-excited to see these guys, and then i see them in mass numbers... so I just wait a few months and I want to see them again. #fieldherping #herping #herps #snakes #californiaherps #california #herpetology #herpetofauna #ringnecksnake #photography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #nature #naturephotography #macrophotography #macro #canonglobal #canon #canonphotography #hiking #flipping #adventure

This is my 200th post! And I really want to talk about my social media journey I've been doing wildlife biology in some capacity for 4 years now. For the last year and half, I've been trying to bring people along with me. I want to share what I love about the natural world, my opinions on everything from climate positivity to conservation priority, and just what I find incredibly fascinating! For a 200th post I couldve talked about the zoo we went to and are they good or bad. I could've talked about the amazing International Herpetological Symposium I went to yesterday. I could've talked about the crazy nest robbing activity we saw with an emerald toucanet last week. But instead I wanted to get very meta and talk about social media. Don't worry all those posts are to come Instagram in particular has been very interesting ride. I learned how to grow a following very very quickly, but in doing so ran for a vanity metric. I met awesome people along the way by accident, but I wasn't involved in this astounding community. It was only recently that I've changed that. I've met amazing people through insta that I later became friends with in real life. I've watched astonishing creators also show their love for the earth and it's inhabitants. I've received hundreds of messages from people encouraging what I do, asking for help, or just wanting to know more about all that's around us! I've tagged a bunch who hit one of those criteria. Follow them. They're great! It's all those interactions that really keep me going. On the professional side of things, I've been able to network with amazing researchers, been invited to be on 2 different podcasts, and also had opportunities crop up all because of a simple Instagram account. To everyone who I've met, interacted with, or talked to over the last 1.5 years, thank you so much! To everyone who likes and comments on my posts, thank you. And to anyone who this might be their first time seeing my posts, send me a dm about anything. I'm down to talk! I do want to know from you, what do you love to see the most from wildlife focsued creators on Instagram? Leave a comment or send me a dm.
