Camera Vs camera, lens vs lens, new camera on the market Vs old school camera. The list goes on and on, sometimes it’s almost impossible to find the right camera for the job…almost! I know we always hear the line “it’s not about the quality of the camera that makes your film the best it’s the film maker” but as a film maker you are always itching for the best gear or at the very least to shoot on the best gear. My advice has always been use what you have!! Keep filming and don’t stop to think about “oh this would look so much better on an Arri Alexa Mini or Red with anamorphic lenses”. Yes, I agree a cinematic camera looks amazing but it doesn’t change the story you are trying to tell. I have made mistakes in the past and having a more expensive camera wouldn’t have changed that, you grow and so does your style. Think of it this way the more you film the more your work gets noticed, the more your work gets noticed the more work you get and with that comes updating your kit as you go along. In the photos are the cameras I have worked with and some of the cameras I have owned. My first camera was the JVC (which I still have), then the Canon Xl2 (I used it with a 35mm adapter), then onto my BMPCC and finally my Red Raven.
