Jamie is a technology futurist and sits on the World Health Organisation's Expert Advisory Committee on Developing Global Standards for Governance and Oversight of Human Genome editing.

PREDICTIVE HEALTHCARE - ability to screen adults for predispositions to known diseases, such that early preventative healthcare interventions can be implemented to mitigate risks. In the same vein, if you knew that your child has a predisposition to excel in math vs athletics for example, would that help guide your parenting and which activities you invest in for your kids' extra-curriculars ?

END OF SEX as primary method of human conception - IVF conception and Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) screening of embryos pre-implantation to screen out genetic disorders and mitigate risk of genetic mutations that may occur spontaneously during transitional conception. .
DESIGNER BABIES - the 3rd genetically engineered baby is about to be born in China and technology to select for genes in embryos for competitive advantage, such as selecting highest IQ potential and lowest disease risk pre-implanatation is already available.

A century ago, the average person slept 2 hours more than they do today. .
Can you imagine averaging out 9 or 10 hours of sleep per day Seems like a total luxury !

☝But sleep deprivation is a fairly recent phenomenon.

When electric lights became common, they allowed us to stay up later with light.

In the 40s and 50s, television gave us another reason to stay up.

Then came the widespread adoption of the Internet in the 1990s and 2000s.

♀️All of these things add up to a sleep deprived population.

Regularly sleeping less than 7 or 6 hours a night wreck havoc on your immune system, and more than doubles your risk of cancer. Sleep deprivation puts us at risk of stroke, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's, and contributes to all major psychiatric conditions including depression anxiety and suicidality.

So, stop depriving yourself of sleep if you want to function at your best and live healthier for longer.

What’s your room temperature?

Turns out the optimal temperature for sleep is 18–22 degrees Celsius (64–69 Fahrenheit).

⬇️Your body temperature decreases to initiate sleep and to stay asleep.
.
Sleeping in temperatures that are higher or lower than this range can lead to restlessness and a loss of sleep quality.
.
When I started my sleep biohacking journey, my thermostat was at 26 degrees Celcius.
.
☀️Yep, loved the tropical heat vibe. Girls are always cold, right !? I liked to keep it warm and cozy. Comfortable. But my sleep quality was terrible.
.
Over time, I've trained myself to sleep at 21 degrees Celcius. Who knows, maybe soon I’ll get it down to 20!
.
It's been a journey. It still feels a bit chilly sometimes when I'm falling asleep but oh so good throughout the rest of the night.
.
And now when I'm traveling now I NOTICE when the hotel room is too warm to sleep in and how uncomfortable that feels.
.
If I can train myself to sleep in lower temperature, you can too! Your sleep is worth it!

Brain waves. Everyone’s got them.
.
They are electrical impulses in the brain.
.
At the root of all our thoughts, emotions and behaviours is the communication between neurons within your brain.
.
Neurons are the building blocks of your brain.
.
Neurons communicate with each other by electrical changes, producing rhythmic or repetitive patterns of neural activity, which are called brain waves (or “neural oscillations” if you wanna get technical).
.
We can actually see and map these brain waves with an EEG (electroencephalogram).
.
There are 4 main types of brain waves:
✅Beta waves (12 to 38 Hz) - dominate our normal waking state of consciousness when attention is directed towards cognitive tasks and the outside world.
Beta is a ‘fast’ activity, present when we are alert, attentive, engaged in problem solving, judgment, decision making, or focused mental activity.
✅Alpha waves (8 to 12 Hz) - dominant during quietly flowing thoughts, and in some meditative states. Alpha is ‘the power of now’, being here, in the present. It’s the resting state for the brain. Alpha waves aid overall mental coordination, calmness, alertness, mind/body integration and learning.
✅Theta waves (3 to 8 Hz) occur most often in sleep & in deep meditation. Theta is our gateway to learning, memory, and intuition. In theta, our senses are withdrawn from the external world and focused on signals originating from within. It is that twilight state between sleep and wakefulness, and our dream state.
✅Delta waves (.5 to 3 Hz) Are the slowest, generated in deepest meditation and dreamless sleep. Delta waves suspend external awareness and are the source of empathy. Healing and regeneration are stimulated in this state, and that is why deep restorative sleep is so essential to the healing process.

Got needles in my face, how was your Friday night

Finally carved out time in my schedule to embark on a facial acupuncture treatment course. .
The needles create micro trauma, which increases blood circulation and collagen production in the treated area. The needles also work to relax muscles where we repeatedly hold tension.
