Sometimes I hate putting things into repeat, but I always enjoy them when they’re complete.

Is your morning routine hectic or slow and mindful?!? Mine is definitely on the hectic side of things, getting 4 boys and hubby out the door for school and work is no joke and not for the faint of heart . • The way I carve out time for art looks a bit differently now than it did when I was teaching full time to 550 students last year vs. now I still teach but i teach for an online middle/high school and i teach from my studio. I know that some of you work full time, others have little ones that require full-time watching over, others work part time or have kiddos that are in school. I’m hoping that between illustrating both scenarios i have been in that you can find bits and pieces of what might work for you. Here are the two sides: Then (working full time): The boys ALWAYS made their own lunches and we were always in a state of rushing (sounds familiar?), I got to teach all my sons’ art classes which was a wonderful experience for 8 years. I would sometimes paint on my lunch break of 25 min and rarely would paint during my 7th or 8tu grade classes if they were painting too. We were always rushing to soccer and swim practice after school and then rushing to make dinner. I held fast to my M,T,O rule (I’ll explain it more) and made room for a minimum of 20 min of art making per day. Often if looked like sitting cross-legged in bed with watercolor paper taped to a board balanced on my lap with my palette and water on my night stand while watching an episode of something with my handsome hubby before we collapsed from exhaustion. Other days it meant carving out a target amount of 1.5 hours (usually on a Saturday) to spend really focusing on my art practice. My husband began to see that I needed this time as months went by and he periodically would offer to take care if homework/dishes etc. so I could paint. • Now (working part time): Every Sunday I set my hours for the following week for work and studio. I pull out my planner and monthly goal sheet and I look at the appointments of the week and write in the time and I plan everything else around my work and studio time.
