Inversion program dets!‍♀️ - What is it? - My inversion program is a 5 tier program designed to take you from the basics of getting upside down all the way to elite level functional fitness skills. - Who is it for? - No matter your current skill level, all athletes start at tier 1 of the program. You must earn your elite skills! The only prerequisite for the inversion program is the ability to kick up to a wall assisted handstand. The inversion beginner’s program is coming soon! - What can I expect? - There are five tiers or levels to graduate from in order to complete the full inversion program. No matter your skill level everyone starts on tier 1. This tier is meant to be one full week of work, three skill sessions plus a testing block. At the end of the week, you will submit videos of your testing block directly to True Coach for review and feedback from me. If all the videos look fantastic you will graduate and move onto tier 2 the next week, if not we will repeat another week of tier 1 and continue to work on those movements before progressing out of your current skill level. As the levels build, the progression and programming gets much more challenging and complex. |ARE YOU FRUSTRATED?|⁣⁣ ⁣⁣. We asked what skill was driving you crazy & it turns out stringing #ttb was on the top of the list! . THE ISSUE: •You have an extra swing between each toes to bar. . TOP REASONS THIS COULD BE HAPPENING: •You are losing tension when feet return from the top of the rig. •You are opening hip too early when feet return. •You don’t have enough lat strength to pull slightly back behind the bar & instead “roll” up. . KEY POINTS: •Start from a “dead” hang. Then begin to learn efficient beat swing powered thru shoulders & lats (while opening & closing arch/hollow). . •Then begin “target practice” by only going as high as you can control the return. . Serious question: Do you avoid programming ring or bar muscle ups or skip your wod that day because you can’t do them? . ▪️That’s like never programming snatches because not everyone can RX 95/135. . ▪️So what do you do when people can’t snatch the RX weight? -Why, you give them lighter weight for a snatch, or have them work the snatch from the hang, which is also known as a PROGRESSION in the sport of gymnastics. Funny enough, we scale the same way for #muscleups. . WORK PARTS OF THE WHOLE. -Break the MU into portions. The pull (scale to ring pull-ups or ring rows in false grip) The transition (work toe-assist MU) The dip (static dip between boxes or scaled heel box ring dips). *YES - you can do ALL of the above in the wod! . Will you get the same “intensity” output? NO Remember intensity comes AFTER mechanics & consistency. Strength & Technique first. Intensity/Momentum last. . Nobody wants to feel “punished” because they can’t “RX.” . ✅They also want to “play on the playground” so it is our job as coaches to give them the necessary strength & technique but make it FUN so they come back for more! They probably love handstands too!!! . ⚠️SCALING THE HSPU: *Kipping is not a scale. We teach strict before momentum for safety!The athlete does not have the strength to control the decent & putting undo pressure on their neck & spine. *Also, before you stack 2 ab mats in full handstand make sure the athlete has full range of motion in a scaled version (box or pike HSPU). . ❗️Apply the same rule you would to a squat. You would not have them keep 95# and go to 1/4 squat. You would take OFF weight and have them go to FULL range of motion. Our body is the weight in the HSPU - so scaled the “load” by decreasing lever and go to full range of motion first. . *So how can you build strength AND make it fun? Train parts of the whole: •Get them into a version of Handstand holds (that’s the FUN part!) •Then have them work the strength portion, whether its pushups, “bear-crawl” HSPU, box hspu etc… . I was going through my Instagram and came across this great post where a girl was demonstrating her amazing bar routine. The main thing that stood out to me was her glide kip and how beautifully she did it, and how it helps her move from one movement to the next. Not that we are about beauty in Crossfit but the first thing that came to mind was that a gymnast you need to use your whole body and have a great sense of space to perform a good routine or movement. In Crossfit we can easily get hung up on the fact that we want to get that bar muscle up and forget about everything that it takes to get there. I am running a 6 week Bar Muscle up program at @crossfitburleigh and one of the first things that I teach is body shape and awareness. Creating tension and power through a tight body and how to glide kip to create better understanding for the kipping movement which translates back to a #muscleup Don't sacrifice! Train hard and train your whole body. Listen to your body and understand it because that is what can help you achieve that movement you are after.
