The Beginning ⠀ ⠀ Upon entering the hobby I was spending ungodly amounts of money on pumps, lighting, heaters, and coral! I couldn’t help it, I was hooked! (Expensive Taste didn’t help either) ⠀ ⠀ There became a point to where it was entirely too much money being thrown into my new found obsession. I was at a cross road. I either started hooking on the streets, or started generating coral funds with the stuff I had already purchased. ⠀ ⠀ This is where everything changed. I realized that I didn’t need to spend my hard earned money from my 9-5, I didn’t have to lie to my wife about how much my fish cost, or my high end coral. I just had to work doing the thing I love, to continue collecting what my brother called “sea sponges.” ⠀ ⠀ This is where the journey began. It’s hard, and trying at times, but I love it. I do my best to provide quality packaging/coral to my fellow hobbyist who support me. I will always put them first. I will admit, I’m not even close to some expert on coral care, fish disease, plumbing, equipment, but I’ll damn sure keep learning and growing. My most valuable and treasured asset is you guys. Anything I can do to help you grow as a hobbyist I’m more than happy to help. It’s my way of paying it forward. I wouldn’t be close to where I am now without the knowledge shared from all the success reefers I’ve met throughout the years. The people are everything, not the coral, not the money, not the gloating about obtaining rare pieces. The people. ⠀ ⠀ Now I understand, selling isn’t for everyone. Some make plenty of money with their careers, some spend sparingly and are smart with their money, some don’t want to sell because they are afraid of what others will say or just don’t care to. Good news! Who cares what others think, and also TRADE!

Hacia 1550-1560 Plata dorada, parcialmente en su color; torneada, fundida, repujada y grabada Medidas: 28 cm de altura, 19 cm de anchura del pie Peso: 938 gr Marcas en la pestaña del pie: Venera peregrina inscrita dentro de un marco de perfil cuadrado, y corona vegetal de tres puntas. Estampadas en la pestaña presenta dos marcas idénticas en forma de una venera de valva plana con sus dos orejas junto a la charnela, reproduciendo la imagen de la concha de la vieira (pecten jacobeus) del peregrino, de manera que se puede identificar con facilidad el origen de la pieza. Este icono está tomado de la heráldica de la ciudad de Santiago de Guatemala (Antigua), llamada así por aludir al Apóstol Peregrino, que es el patrono y el que le da su nombre, y por tanto, es en esta localidad donde fue labrado el cáliz. También en la pestaña del pie, pero en otro de los campos romos, figura con impresión muy defectuosa la señal de una corona vegetal de tres puntas, que no es otra que la utilizada para indicar que la pieza pasó por el control fiscal respondiendo a la obligación del pago del “quinto”. No se conocen todavía muchos cálices labrados en el siglo XVI en la ciudad de Antigua (Santiago de Guatemala), así que la referencia de éste que ahora sale a la luz es de gran importancia para reconstruir la platería religiosa salida de los talleres de este importante centro artístico centroamericano. Además, dentro de la sencillez del tipo, descubrimos en el ejemplar una perfecta armonía en su estructura por la ordenación y separación de los cuerpos que lo integran y sobre todo destaca por la elegancia de su vocabulario decorativo al estar tratado con gran sentido plástico, donde los motivos aparecen dibujados con seguridad y con un valiente relieve que los fortalece destacándolos sobre un fondo liso, que no está matizado. En suma, una obra muy singular por su calidad artística y sobre todo por su antigüedad.
