Plantar Fascia
•
If you suffer from heel, foot, and/or ankle pain from weight bearing activities, plantar fascia release can help improve symptoms dramatically.
•
Your plantar fascia covers a large portion of the bottom foot and is continuous from the achilles tendon. If you play sports, run, and partake in other intense, weight bearing activities, it’s likely that you may experience fasciitis or fasciosis. Often the pain is described as sharp, burning, stiff, achy, and/or sore.
•
Working on the tissues in this region of the foot, combined with a proper strength and mobility rehab plan may help you conquer your symptoms.

What is the bilateral deficit?: Ability to produce greater force in the sum of the unilateral compared with the bilateral. This phenomenon has been documented in various movement tasks, different muscle groups (with greater effect observed in lower limbs compared to upper limbs), contraction types (eccentric, concentric & isometric) and different populations.
What’s the mechanism of action?: There’s a high chance that multiple mechanisms are at play. However, the leading explanation suggests that neural limitation during bilateral training blunts maximal unilateral force production. But we will address this on our upcoming post.
Why the bilateral deficit should interest you: It’s likely that unilateral strength training would confer greater performance benefits than bilateral training in unilateral athletes (i.e., MMA fighters, baseball pitchers ⚾, & others).

♂️BACK PAIN FROM A LONG CAR RIDE OR PLANE FLIGHT♂️
•
This is an oldie, but a goodie!
•
We’ve all gotten to a rest stop or an airport, and crawled out of our seat, and groaned as we threw our hands to our lower back and tried to straighten up, squinting in pain. Here is a very simple and quick modification that will likely bring you a ton of relief!
•
Our spines have natural curves 〰️ in them, and the curves differ depending on the region of the spine. The lumbar spine (the low back) has what’s known as a lordotic curve in it. However, when we sit for long periods of time in a car or plane seat, our lumbar spines are forced into an uncomfortable position that simulates straightening ➖ that curve out (which shouldn’t happen). This is what can cause pain when you stand up!
•
To fix this problem, we need to try and maintain that lordotic curve throughout the travel. The easiest way to do this is to take a towel, roll it up, and place it right behind your lower back. As you recline back against the towel, it will force the curve, preventing the slouching position that leads to pain!
