It is dangerous to be conscious of submission to a spiritual power. The difference between fatalism and faith lies just here. Fatalism means, “My number’s up; I have to bow to the power whether I like it or not; I do not know the character of the power but it is greater than I am, and I must submit.” The submission of faith is that I do know the character of the power, and this was the line Job took— “though He slay me, yet I will trust the fact that His character is worthy.” This is the attitude of faith all through— “I submit to One who’s character I know but who’s ways are obscured in mystery just now.” We do know the character of God, if we are Christians, because we have it revealed to us in Jesus Christ — “He hath seen me hath seen the Father”. Anything that contradicts the manifestation given in and through the Lord Jesus Christ cannot be true of God. Therefore we know that the character of God insoluble and true and right, and any authority from God is based, not on autocracy or mere blind power, but on worthiness which everything in me recognizes as worthy, therefore I submit. Elihu was moved with indignation because Job said, “I cannot submit to the fact that God has decreed such things as you say; you must give me room to say that your credal exposition of God is wrong. By your creed you prove me to be wrong where I know I am right; therefore if the facts I do not know are disproved by you, how can I accept your explanation of the facts I do not know?” Elihu says God does not explain Himself, and you have no right to try and find Him out, it is sufficient to know that the autocratic authority of the Omnipotent has spoken, therefore you must submit.” — Oswald Chambers

Hello! I guess it's about time that I introduced myself! Let's see, I currently work as a dietitian in the hospital and I do calligraphy on the side along with helping with a lot of my friends' weddings. (I guess I'm at that age!) To answer some of the questions I often get asked: What got you started in calligraphy? I started almost five years ago with making birthday cards because I had too many family members and friends that are born in January and I didn't want to pay at least $5 for each card. I really enjoyed making pretty things for others to enjoy and happy to help my friends with their weddings. To keep myself practicing and disciplined I joined lettering challenges like #30daysofbiblelettering. I thought, what better way to keep lettering than to share also what God speaks to me about! He speaks to me most through His Word (the Bible) and through worship music - telling me of His love, who He is, and also who I am. My hope is that it encourages and blesses you guys! How did you learn calligraphy? Honestly, from watching Instagram videos, trying to write letters in the same way and naturally evolving into my own style. What are your tips for someone starting out? Get good paper. You can have the nicest pens and nibs but if your paper isn't smooth enough it'll just wreck the tips very quickly. I like using HP premium laserjet 32 lb weight paper for practice (and most of what you see posted on Instagram) and Bristol paper for gifts. What are your favourite calligraphy supplies?
