In order to examine the technique, we'll be contemplating the work of two of the best female photographers: PIA RIVEROLA (@piariverola) and RACHEL GULOTTA (@rachelgulotta). ⠀ In a nutshell: the sub-framing technique consists of creating a frame within the frame. ⠀ Here the photographer not only created or used existing visual layers but also made them interact with each other. This is an exceptional technique to practice and experiment with. When executed properly sub-framing will raise the visual depth, provoke more interest to your photo and instantly guide the viewer's attention. ⠀ This technique has great versatility and can be applied in a ton of different ways, here are some suggestions to experiment with: - Using shapes and elements in the background (like windows or doors behind the subject); - Using shapes and elements in the foreground (you could start with windows); - Using light or shadows (find those cast lights on walls and experiment with it); - Using mirrors (maybe it’ll be a cheesy trend in 2020 lol); - the list goes on… ⠀ Swiping left for days.
