I've given birth to a little frog. Still amazed that Ronja fit into my belly so snuggly and how small she still folds up. It's these moments marveling at her that give me hope that we got this. Postpartum and the fourth trimester are truly unparalleled in intensity. I have been thinking about extreme sports, icy day long sea swims, running multiple marathons and truly feel like the first weeks and months with a newborn are just as hard if not harder only noone really ever talks about it that way. Who would go into three weeks without sleep and a tight waking-feeding schedule after days in labour without food followed by major surgery without training? Unprepared to surrender body, soul, time, sanity, identity and all you thought you knew purely for survival. Told that you can't stop, you won't stop because this is your life now. Would you sign up for it? When bonding happens slowly because of birth trauma or mental health or just because it doesn't happen like in the happy family picture we are shown over and over again in society... It's a crazy ride. I want to squeeze every mom out there tightly and tell her that I love her and understand her now and send her all the love and strength. If I had known I would have been there more, cooked more meals, massaged more feet of my friends who already have children. Even now after just a few weeks it's getting a tiny little bit easier. Not the task at hand itself but by getting to know your new little friend I feel the fear evaporating and acceptance and resilience washing through my veins and lots and lots of love for this miracle of life, my little frog. . . . Being 38 and having a baby means that I over prepared before birth, which means that I'm only moderately underprepared for reality now. Humor makes everything better. Happy birthday to this boy that taught me sometimes things don’t work out how YOU plan because there is a better plan. Sometimes we force things because we just want them so much and many times that can be disastrous!! My doc and I figured that I could deliver a 10 lb baby because I had done it with my first why not try again? But Logan was taking forever and my nurse (and coworker) kept telling me the baby was not coming down. After pushing and pushing and being stubborn and saying that I could do it, I could push the baby out, finally someone reasoned with me and helped me realize this baby wasn’t coming out for a reason. So I ended up with a c section. First the pediatrician almost dropped him when they handed a toddler to him!! Weighing in at 11 lbs 4 oz, that boy was all cheeks!! I realized that had I insisted on a vaginal delivery and been successful, there would have been a bad outcome. He wasn’t meant to come that way. It was safer for him to be delivered via c section and I recognized that if I hadn’t left go of my plans, he might not even be here. It’s hard to let go of those plans. Trust me I know!! But sometimes backing down and letting go opens and completely different path. Thank you Logan for teaching me so much from the beginning. I love this little junior ranger so much. We started driving down the VBack Road but took a detour thru C-Sction Lane... here goes Liliana’s Birth Story: I started feeling contractions on Thursday at 1am. They were very consistent and 5min apart from the very beginning. They started as cramp-like and got stronger with time, as they should. We got to the hospital round 4am for them to check me and there was no dilation yet. We walked the hospital for another 1h30min hoping for dilation but nothing, so they sent us back home to labor. At 4pm we were back to the hospital and I finally got admitted at 4cm dilated. I asked for an epidural - I was way to tired and needed to rest. It was glorious The problem is that in the next 2h I got the rest but I didn't have any progress... and her heart beat started to go up and down. The Dr broke my water to see if it would help speed up the process but nothing. They couldn't give me any medication such as Pitosen to get the contractions back up because it could thin out my previous scar. Soooo based on the fact I was only 4cm dilated (waaays to go until the active labor fase), my contractions were spreader apart at that moment (about 7-8min) and her heart rate was oscillating, we chose to do a C-Section and I do not regret that for a second. After she was born we found the umbilical cord was wrapped around her body and that’s most likely why her heart rate was going up and down. Good thing I didn’t try to play “super woman” and insisted on he VBack. Unfortunately it wasn’t for us, and what matters is that she’s here, happy and healthy. NEWS FLASH! Remember I shared I had 2 due dates? Soooo I just had my OB appointment and we triple checked my #IVF transfer date AND we figured that the official one is 06/06, which is TOMORROW That means I’ll be officially 40 weeks and as a V-back candidate we started to talk about a plan B if this baby doesn’t want to come out by herself in the next few days... Because I had a #cesarian with Sebastian I can not be induced this time around and the game plan at this moment is: if she is not born until Wednesday (06/12) we are having a C-section that day. Not my fist choice BUT we don’t want to risk baby’s health and go pass 41 weeks.
