This morning I went to physical therapy and busted my ass for an hour. Afterwards, my legs felt like jello and they were buzzing like crazy. I needed to get some stuff from Target so I decided to use the electric scooter to get around the store. A month or two ago I would have just pushed myself and walked around the store, then regretted it later. • Even though I’ve had MS for over 10 years, I’m still learning to cope with some of the effects of this disease. Using mobility aids again has been incredibly hard for me but they are extremely helpful and totally worth it. I wish I would’ve done it sooner. • I love seeing all of my fellow spoonies post pictures with their mobility aids. It helps to know there’s others out there with invisible diseases going through the same struggles as me. TSA employees need to learn that not every disability is visible... if the security line is long at the airport I go through the handicap line because I have a hard time standing for an extended amount of time. Yesterday I had 2 TSA agents look me up and down when I said I was disabled. One even chuckled under his breath. They obviously didn’t believe me. It used to bother me when people acted like that but not anymore! I know that I have the right to go through the handicap line regardless of what they say or how they look at me. In Australia MS affects 26,000 people with the average age of diagnosis being late 20s to early 30s. It is a debilitating disease that affects the central nervous system and currently there is no known cure. Why am I running? This is my client Adriana. Adriana was diagnosed 8 years ago when she was just 26 years old. In the beginning she lost complete feeling in 3/4 of her body. Most of the feeling regained after treatment, however she has never regained sensation in her hands and feet. Over the past 8 years she has selflessly dedicated her life to fundraising and supporting others diagnosed with MS. Now it’s your turn to be supported girl. You are an inspiration (she hates being called that), but it’s true.
