♿️ ➖ Being a full-time #wheelchairuser & requiring assistance permanently for about any task, can quickly make some feel “heavy”, isolated, helpless, alone, unwanted or worse. ➖ The way society deals with inclusion is up to this day still very limited. ➖ Think of it for a second… what if much of the boring (and often totally useless) stuff squeezed and forced into children’s minds at school was replaced by some “enlarging” the mind & heart activities, some “meditation-for-fun”, “learn-to-listen” classes, “inclusion and sharing” rather than “competition and individual rewards” knowledge, etc… ➖ In the field of disability, we could easily imagine an exercise in sports class (let's say) during which all kids would have to go through an obstacle course with a wheelchair, to make them deeply and efficiently understand what being different can mean… What kind of adults would these children become?! Surely genuinely spontaneous & compassionate, rather than doing a great job at expressing superficial pity, not knowing what else to do… ➖ Anyway, back to reality!! … my point here is that sometimes one's feeling of inability has less to do with one's disability than it has to with his/her surrounding! ➖ Supportive and creative friends and/or family is in some cases all that’s really missing in one's life to make it “great again” … or at the very least, more bearable ‍♀️. ➖ “Able-bodied” doesn’t necessarily mean “able-hearted & -minded”… ➖ I know many of you have the “privilege” and the good fortune to be well surrounded… But unfortunately, that is not the case for all “limited-edition” bodies, who sometimes are not even aware that all they’ve been carrying on their shoulders for so long doesn’t belong to them … ➖ #ACCESSIBLEisPOSSIBLE Not only for the body but also for the mind and the heart ❤️. ✨ If school won’t do it, why not #DIY & start today! Become the “educators” of a better tomorrow… No need for arrogance, as only gentleness can touch the soul ➖ Remember these two #quotes from Antoine de Saint-Exupery: ⬇️ In the comments below ⬇️

There’s No Picture to Disability | When society sees me, they see a wheelchair, I see freedom they see crooked fingers, I see inventors, creators, picture takers, pizza holders! they see “sadness”, When I'm happy, excited, flirty, passionate, ambitious, angry, all of these things that make up a human. What I've learned from society is that they see my existence, as a reflection or mirror of the "worst" thing that could happen to them or be, and that's what makes disability to them so uncomfortable. They see all these stigmas *that they invent themselves* that feed into their ideas of what it is to be disabled. I am here, along with lots of other disabled people, to shatter those stereotypes and show that we’re not this picture of disability created by abled society. This is my disabled self ❤️ . . : @breakfast_at_briffanys MUA: @edenskyeartistry HAIR: @christinarosas_ *shirts in bio* [picture description: Jocy is sitting in her pink and black wheelchair. Every time he has to leave his daughter in the hospital he beats his chest, and she does it back. He says he always does it to let her know that they share the same heartbeat and that hes fighting with her ❤️ • • This is Josh and his wife Gretchen's youngest daughter Opal, who was diagnosed with AFM, a rare condition that affects the nervous system. She spent 7 weeks in the pediatric intensive care unit, and has been in a rehabilitation center for the last few weeks. I hope this pin is helpful for disabled people who ‘don’t look disabled’ but need to use disabled toilets, take priority seats on public transport or park in disabled spaces. I think it’s better in these situations to risk being wrong very occasionally by assuming that people are acting out of need, than to make a disabled person’s life more difficult by giving them dirty looks or interrogating them. Most disabilities aren’t visible.
