A year ago, I decided to transition from having relaxed hair to natural hair. It wasn’t something that I wanted to do but I had to do it because, honestly after having Annelise I wasn’t taking care of myself like I should have. I was focused more on her needs instead of mine. My hair became untamable and I ended up having to cut it all off.⁣ •⁣ Since then, I’ve been very self conscious about posting photos of myself. It’s been a year and I’ve finally embraced the fro!! Lol. It’s much more easy to manage, just fluff it out and go lol. I remember this day so clearly!! Db was about 6 weeks old, and it was the first day I put makeup on, got dresses, and managed to get out, to a postnatal group. I came home exhausted and spoonless! . This time was incredibly hard, I felt very alone and isolated. I had so much going on in my personal life, and a lot changed so quickly. I didn’t feel myself for about a year after. I’m Beginning to wonder if I had postnatal depression. I still have a few relapses when I see certain triggers. . ‍There wasn’t that much support out there for me as a disabled mum. I felt incredibly overwhelmed. My social worker was just horrendous!! And the OT’s hadn’t dealt with anyone under the age of 65‍♀️There was no youtube or Facebook groups-not like there is now. . ♿️This is why it’s so important to have these online communities. I like to think that wheelsnoheels can offer anyone struggling to cope support. In my TEDx talk I discuss how I am the person my younger self needed. Whenever I make a video, I always put myself back to a particular time in my life, and make the video for the past me! Fast forward 10 years, and we survived. I love my little db so much. She is such a special soul. This is a friendly reminder. Social media is great for many reasons but also I’m glad I was raised before this world of technology like this. I’m glad we are raising our kids the way we were as close as we can as far as values, character, and morals. I was raised that you better know how to back your mouth up if you have a big one. Social media has made too many people way too comfortable to be what I call keyboard warriors (meaning you talk big behind your phone or computer; but I would bet money that in face to face you wouldn’t say those things). Remember to be kind, no judgment and actually try to get to know someone. This man raised me as if I was his daughter even though I’m his granddaughter. It’s been a blow to the gut this week between my health news and also my grandfathers news. I can’t understand why certain life events have correlated with certain ones with my uncle and my grandparents. I lost my uncle already almost 5 yrs ago and I’m not sure what’s going to happen with my grandfather or me but him, my grandmother and my uncle raised me. I know that Gods plan is something we can’t understand until it’s still comforting to know that Gods got him. Is nerve wrecking to know his time is near.
