Stairs, my old nemesis... My bedroom is downstairs, so start my mornings with a little cardio. But if I need something from my room later in the day, I’ll often ask Elliott to grab it for me. Too many trips up and down wipe me out in no time. ⁣ ⁣ POTSie heart rates, as you are well aware, like to misbehave. When a POTS patient goes from sitting to standing, their heart rate jumps at least 30 beats per minute! And that heart rate often keeps rising the longer they stand. ⁣ ⁣ That means any level of physical exertion is likely to make a POTSie heart rate skyrocket, so something as simple as going up a flight of stairs can feel like running a marathon—because that’s essentially what your heart thinks you’re doing. ‍♀️ ⁣ ⁣ This can lead to lots of symptoms and can really quickly drain a POTSie’s energy, which is why lots of us need to take elevators instead of stairs. Elevators are important and necessary for lots of different people for lots of different reasons, and sometimes the reason isn’t obvious at first glance!
