I’ve been building sweet dreams about and around things, places, and people that dared me to move. Since I started, I was taught to be patient, to understand that I have a timeline of my own — a timeline to work on, respect, and trust at all cost. This video is a 1min cut from our 3min+ film of Anilao. That week, the waters of Anilao had been surrounded by world-renowned photographers. But it wasn’t their credentials that really mattered. To me, it’s how they inspired divers to “keep creating with respect to the process”. During our 3rd day, I had 300GB+ worth of files and I didn’t know how to start, how to piece them together, and heck, color correct and grade footages from a GH5, Sony a7sii, a7rii, and Canon 5DmkIV! And if you dive, you know how it’s a pain in the ass to match the colors underwater for it varies at different depths and scenarios. Underwater footages are no joke and I wish I was a better colorist while I was editing this. Now, all I can remember was telling myself: “GET A PEN AND PAPER. WRITE. THE IDEA WILL COME. TIWALA.” This video is far from perfect but it reminds me of 3 things: 1. To see the UW world as source of joy, 2. That I have sooo much to learn, and 3. It’s okay to not be perfect. Just keep creating with respect to the process. How many frogfish do you see?⠀ A very appropriately named, hairy (aka striated) frogfish walking along the sea floor on a slope in Dumaguete.⠀ Upon first glance, frogfishes appear to have faces that only their mothers could love. But it is an equally undeniable fact there is something that we find to be absolutely adorable in the way they look, and there is little doubt that frogfishes have many divers hooked at first glance.⠀ Masters of camouflage, frogfishes often adapt to look like the surrounding environment. As a result, they can be extremely difficult to spot when they are at rest as they often look like sponges, branches of corals or large clumps of encrusting algae. Some species actually cultivate bits of algae that grow on their bodies to help them in the art of camouflage. Collectively speaking, their colors range from white to vivid hues of oranges, yellows, reds and greens to black. Some fish are solid, others mottled, and still others are spotted. A Coleman Shrimp (Periclimenes colemani) couple riding across a sandy slope on their Fire Urchin (Asthenosoma varium) throne in Anilao, Philippines. Many opt to shoot this subject from a low angle emphasizing the face of the shrimps but I opted to turn my camera vertical and shoot from a higher angle to emphasize the togetherness of this beautiful couple!

⠀ Turtle Tuesday ⠀ This green sea turtle is dancing to get the wiggles out! Well... maybe she’s actually cleaning her shell.
