When decluttering, gifts are difficult for many people to part with because they fear disappointing the gift giver. But here are some of my thoughts to keep in mind: • ⚪️ Realistically, most gifts were not meant to last a whole lifetime. A few examples: A toy my daughter receives now will be unused at some point. A necklace I received in high school that I never wear now doesn’t add anything to my life. A book I received that I read once, but don’t plan on rereading. Generally, gift givers should understand that their gifts are probably not timeless. ⚪️ If something is important to a loved one and they don’t want to see you part with it, offer for them to keep it. Clearly it has more meaning for them than you. ⚪️ I cannot remember all the gifts I’ve received from every friend and loved one over the years, let alone all the gifts I’ve given to them. All I’m saying here is that if you come across an old gift you’ve received, chances are the gift giver has already forgotten about it. ⚪️ Lets do a little math, shall we? Let’s say between my birthday, Christmas, and other occasions each year that I receive 5 gifts (and maybe that’s a little conservative, right?). If I start keeping track now at age 30, by the time I reach retirement at age 65, that’s 175 gifts I will accumulate. I highly doubt at that age that I would be actively using or appreciating all of these gifts. If I choose to part with nothing over the next 35+ years, I’m simply postponing the hard decluttering work for later in life. • Of course, keep what matters to you. Some gifts will be truly sentimental, useful, or lasting. But at the end of the day, don’t keep out of obligation or fear that you will disappoint. ❤️ #itsjuststuff #canttakeitwithyou

New babies Been working on the yard recently. There’s an area behind the house that’s been unused all this time (2 years in the tiny!) and we’re working on some landscaping to make it into a private sitting area for BBQs and such. Photos to come!

Why does living with less give me so much more? This right here. 8:30pm and my daughter is in bed, my house is clean, and I’m relaxing. You see, it only takes us a few minutes to tidy up at the end of each day because, well, there are less things to tidy. And everything has a home. All toys put away. Dishwasher running. Kitchen cleaned. No clutter sitting around begging for my attention. And this wasn’t always the case. But I’ve gotta say - owning less has simply given me the freedom to relax more. ☺️ Have you found this to be true too?

I know the guilt can be real! But here’s the truth: keeping something in a storage unit or in the back of a closet with dust on it doesn’t reimburse you for its cost. ‍♀️ The damage was done when you bought it. Remind yourself of that fact! So give yourself some grace and just donate it! Learn from the experience and do your best to make more intentional purchases moving forward
