ONE WEEK POST OP. Yep. I’m going there. Showing the good, bad and the ugly on IG. Because I want to be transparent. I want to show the truth. It’s been a heck of a week. This is what healing looks like. It’s definitely not pretty. The first 2-3 days I felt great. But this process is hard. [ Mentally more than physically for myself ] I’m not aloud to move my arms. I’m bloated. I’m now riddled with anxiety. I want instant gratification. I want to know how much better I’m going to feel in 4 months. I want to get out of compression. and the list goes on... I just have to keep reminding myself it takes TIME. . . . Did you know that even in the winter, you can find snakes in drainage tunnels? me either But I found out real quick. From what I remember, we found about 5 of em. I also found out that i am in terrible shape. Walking against a current uses more muscles than you think. My body reminded me of this for days after. They say breaking up is hard to do, and I guess I can vouch for that. But, I’ve never looked forward to breaking up with someone more in my life.✌ Tomorrow at 1:30 I plan to break up with my #drains. Now, hear me out...I know They’ve been with me since day 1 post op from my #prophylacticmastectomy. We’ve had some good times, like when they attended my daughters 1st birthday party! But, we’ve had some bad times. They’ve caused me pain, both emotionally and physically - like when I first started back at the gym walking on the treadmill and people stared at them. I wanted to shout, “I just beat #cancer before it could beat me...stop staring!” But, I didn’t. I have worn my little kangaroo pouch and tucked my drains into it safely for 17 days. Tomorrow on our 18th day together, we are breaking up. I needed you to start with...you helped me heal, in all seriousness, you pulled the bad out of me and allowed my body to restore itself. I’m grateful for you, but it’s time for me to move on. I’ve outgrown you and I’ve stopped needing to be so dependent on you. You’ve worked your magic.
