There is NOTHING I love more on IG than the community! The internet is big, but I’m proud to know many women who are using their platform for inspiration and change. ⠀
⠀
When I began my journey, I truly believed I was all alone in my fight with alcoholism. I doubted my ability to ever speak out loud about my struggles. The secret and shame was slowly destroying me. ⠀
⠀
I’m proud of myself for leaning into my fear and sharing my struggle with my friends and family. All I received was love, support, and accountability. ⠀
⠀
This gave me the confidence and strength to be brave enough to speak out virtually. The responses I began to receive was mind blowing. I was far from alone!⠀
⠀
Don’t ever be ashamed to say, “No thanks, I don’t drink.” It’s okay to live an alcohol-free life in a culture that encourages drinking. ⠀
⠀
I’ve always been a graphic tee fan, I’ve just switched my messages from pro drinking to pro recovery. I wear my swag with pride. It’s starts conversations and let’s others know their not alone. It’s important to change the perception and the dialogue about recovery. ⠀
⠀
Everyday I see many sober accounts being created. It brings so much JOY to my heart. Imagine if all of us stood up, loud and proud of our choice to live life without mind altering chemicals. There’s way more people curious about sobriety than you can imagine. There’s a movement in our culture happening and change begins with connection. People are ready for connections before recovery. Collaboration and connection is how we move forward. ⠀
⠀
Tag a friend and give some love to those who are part of this movement. ❤️⠀

#dryjuly2019 is the perfect time to take a break from drinking or celebrate your continued sobriety! Those early days are always the toughest, but it gets so much easier with time and community (any community works irl or online). I've been sober a few years, and I can get so consumed by the life I have today that I forget to practice gratitude. I am beyond thankful for my kids who wrap me in hugs every morning and randomly pretend to have British accents (thanks Peppa Pig ). What are you grateful for today?
One thing I do not do in life is halves. I was never able to half ass drinking. I wasn’t able to half ass a job, or a workout, or a diet. It’s all or nothing. As much as I’ve thought the “all or nothing” mentally was bad, I’ve been able to shift that mindset, because one thing I do not half ass is love. I love with everything I have. And to my friends, I don’t say it enough, but I ❤️you!
I am back a day early for a really good reason. (I’ll reflect on my 15 day hiatus tomorrow) today I wanted to share information on @dryjuly it is an Australian movement & fundraiser, but that doesn’t stop anyone else in the world from participating. You don’t have to sign up officially, maybe just challenge yourself. Don’t want to be public about it? DM me, I’ll help you :) not only is this a great movement, but you’ll lose some lbs-and what’s better than that for the month of July when its 100F everywhere
Last year I wrote a blog post about being a #sobermom in a Mommy wine culture. Today I was brushing up Soberly Chic and was like “dang, I wrote that, that’s pretty good!” So I have it posted up on my profile if you want to read it!
I’m a lot more active on my doula and motherhood blog @totalmomwellness but I really hope to return to blogging about being alcohol free soon!
I’ve seen so many new faces in the #sobercommunity And I love that all these people are finding out how great it is to live #hangoverfree
I would love to know what you think about my post (I’m not sure I’ll get around to writing one for #4yearssober because #toddlermom ) #sobrietyrocks

Hi friends and family! I've signed up to Dry July to raise funds for people affected by cancer. I'd love you to support me and make a donation; http://www.dryjuly.com/users/petros-petrakos
The funds I raise will help provide comfort and support to cancer patients and their families when they need it most.
Thanks in advance for your generosity.

Day 4 of Dry July.
.
I thought I could never change, would never change. That I would be a binge drinker well into my 40s and 50s and that’s just the way it was going to be. .
My mental health got so bad, to the point where alcohol was the only thing left on the list to try and make a change with. I could control that so I changed it.
.
Sobriety benefit today: regaining control. .
When drinking, (maybe because my behaviour was so embarrassing and ultimately I felt like it was wrong, weird, inappropriate) I was always out of control. Spending all my money on shit, buying everyone’s drinks, being so hungover and full of shame that I became a massive people pleaser, always doing things others wanted me to, drinking for other people to have a good time, because I believed they depended on me drinking to do that.
.
Getting sober, I have got some control back on my life. .
I’m no longer living in fear at what I did or who I saw so I can walk down the street or supermarket with my head held high. .
I never need to apologise to someone for my behaviour because I don’t do anything wrong on a night out anymore. .
I feel so much more in control. Anxiety severely lessened and depression completely gone. .
It’s wonderful. Goodbye alcohol!
