It’s so sad reading about microplastics in our waterways and world oceans. But some people are doing their part to help. In the July/August issue of Beachcombing, you can read about Richard Lang and Judith Selby Lang, beachcombers and artists who have collected nurdles, industrial plastic beads, and created jewelry, mounting nurdles as if they were precious gems and stones. Read about the latest research on micro plastics at https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2019/06/06/729419975/microplastics-have-invaded-the-deep-ocean-and-the-food-chain. #marinedebris #ecoart #nurdles #oceanconservation

VOLTA Basel 2019 Exhibitor Spotlight | Le Salon Vert (Carouges, booth C13)
Susanna Bauer (pictured) and Stéphane Erouane Dumas engage in a “silent conversation” around their very personal visions of nature’s immensity: from Bauer’s meticulous handworked leaf crochet to Dumas’ grand and mesmerizing painted Nordic landscapes.

That’s this years @craftfestival done and dusted ✔️ I had a fantastic show and big thanks to all my fellow exhibitors and customers for lots of chats and purchases throughout the weekend. As well as all the hard work from the organisers and show volunteers. After a long drive home last night I am back up North again!! Safe to say I’d love to return in the main section next year - watch this space!!
can you guess the plant used to create this deep golden hue? only about 20 minutes in the dye pot and BAM ☉☉☉

Meet the Vaquita ( meaning "little cow" in Spanish!), a tiny species of #porpoise that's now the worlds most endangered marine mammal. Native to the Gulf of California, they are a species that is teetering on the brink of extinction due to illegal gillnet methods that accidentally entangle Vaquita as #bycatch while supplying the black market with endangered Totoaba fish, which is coveted for it’s “medicinal properties”, of which has not been proven by science. These sweet little porpoises have been listed as critically endangered since 1996 when their population was estimated at 600 and declining. Sadly, in the following decades, their population has plummeted to a now estimated 20 individuals or less. Despite an investment of tens of millions of dollars by the Mexican government in efforts to eliminate bycatch in 2015, their population has continued to decline. In June 2017, an agreement was announced by the Mexican president to make the gillnet ban permanent and to strengthen enforcement, but only a combination of legal action and a strong local incentive for conservation may be the last things that can save these little porpoises. Organizations you can support to help the last of the Vaquitas is the @vaquitacpr , @porpoisedotorg , and @leonardodicapriofdn who are all dedicated to protecting the last of this tiny species! Keep using your voice to share your passion and to protect those who don't have a voice! With your help, one day we may coexist with the other beings on Earth
