Hi castle hunters! It's been a while... For many reasons, ranging from simple lack of time to mental health, I've not been on here much over the past few months. While it certainly brings a lot of people a lot of joy, to be honest I often find IG a challenging platform, hence why I've been pretty quiet here compared with Twitter. I'd like to overcome that and share lots more of Scotland with you here, so thanks for bearing with me and always being awesome, supportive, and geeky Also, 2 big announcements: This trip will see me crack my 400th Scottish castle (obsessed much?), AND I have just officially been accepted to the University of Stirling to do an MRes in Historical Research! Safe to say, then, there will be plenty of castle geekery to come. Cannae wait. Anyway, it's my 30th birthday today and I'm on the Isle of Barra, home to Kisimul Castle. It's one of my absolute favourite places in Scotland full stop, and it features in my book. Home to the sea lords of the Clan MacNeil, Kisimul is one node in a network of Hebridean castles that allowed the Lords of the Isles to dominate the waves. A popular story is that the chieftain of the Clan MacNeil would dine in his far-flung fortress, and only when he finished would a piper ascend the walls and declare that 'now that the MacNeil has dined, the Princes of the world may too break their bread!' The most meaningful experiences happen when & where you least expect. I was able go to Saudi Arabia because the country opened up an evisa for the Formula E races. We explored Riyadh and ended up at a breathtaking place aptly named the Edge of the World. The Formula E was such a random & awesome event but I never expected to find so many friends there, most of whom I had only known through social media.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☾ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The concert after the race was historic, Saudi Arabia had never done anything like this before. Most of the people in the crowd had never been to a concert before in their lives. David Guetta spent months in the studio making an Arabian mix just for them. My friends and I looked at each other in complete disbelief. The crowd was singing along so intensely that the ground was literally shaking. I’ve never heard anything like it. What made it even crazier for me was that in the US, concerts are something we totally take for granted. Everyone there was so genuinely excited & I could tell that they were cherishing each moment.⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☾⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Saudi, I’ve never seen a country so ready for a change. My guide even taught me how to drift his car which felt like a big deal considering women have only been driving there since 2017!

@burgerfiendcessnock PANZER (special), CHEEKY FIEND and THE FANCY ONCE . This was the current special at Burger Fiend, a hectic burg and the fancy one - there was no way we were driving into the borders of the world map just for one burger lol. The richness of the beef cheek with that special were great the sauteed mushrooms on the fancy one and the classic flavours of that trio of lettuce/onion/tomato flavour in the fiend.
