Managed to get a decent time lapse this past weekend. I knew we wouldn't be on top for very long since it was cold and windy, so I set the gopro up right away and it ran for maybe 10 minutes or so. Pretty happy with the results!

Tomb of Ramses VI - valley of the kings, Luxor. This tomb cuts 120 meters deep into the mountain. It lies wall in wall with the famous “Tutankhamuns tomb” (the only tomb found that wasn’t pillaged by grave robbers). Ramses VI’s father, Ramses V started building the tomb for him and his son and both mummies were found side by side in 1922. The colours on the walls are all original, 3200 years old. When the tomb was discovered they found a bouquet of flowers by the door - left by a grieving mother or wife perhaps, in the burial chamber they found 3200 year old candles, used by the workers who finished the chamber, and even a small bucket of paint, untouched for thousands of years. The walls are beautifully decorated, with a superb double image of Nut (the sky goddess) framing the Book of the Day and Book of the Night on the ceiling. This nocturnal landscape in black/blue and gold shows the sky goddess swallowing the sun each evening to give birth to it each morning in an endless cycle of new life designed to revive the souls of the dead pharaohs. . #visitegypt #explorer #egypt #valleyofthekings

Karnak (معبد الكرنك - the holiest of places) is the biggest open air museum of ancient history in the world. - no one knows how the ancient Egyptians built the temple. For instance, the architraves on top of these pillars weigh around 70 tons and were probably lifted 21 meters up in the air somehow. - 30 different pharaohs contributed to this temple of the sun - 8000 servants served daily in the temple and over 420 000 heads of cattle was kept for sacrifice Many popular movies and video games feature the complex, including: The Mummy Returns, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ,Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, James Bond: The Spy Who Loved Me, the video game Assasins creed, Final Fantasy V and even the Sims 3. It’s a place you can’t miss if you’re in Egypt.

The Sphinx (أبو الهول in Arabic) literally means - The Dreadful One. . No one really knows the age of the Great Sphinx of Giza. The first Sphinx built here was buried under the sand for hundreds of years, the current one is a reconstruction made by Thutmoses IV, around 3400 BC. Egyptologists believe this guardian of the graves was constructed to scare off grave robbers and to show Thurmoses IV divine claim to power. His kingdom was a kingdom in turmoil. Hieroglyphics reveal great tragedies had recently befallen the kingdom of Egypt, what some believe to be connected to the 10-plagues of the Exodus. The head resembles that of Thutmoses IV but the body is that of the lion-like sun god Sekhmet. Thutmoses IV ascended to power after Amenhotep II dies mysteriously. He is the only pharaoh in the annals of pharaohs not to have a first born to inherit the throne. Thutmose IV claimed his right to the throne was given to him by the god Harmakhis in a dream. Harmakhis told him he could have the throne on condition that he restore the Sphinx of Gizah that was covered by sand. So Thutmose IV dug up the Sphinx and between its paws was found the “Dream Stela”. A document that legitimatized his right to the throne.. It is believed by some archaeologists that Thutmoses IV was the contemporary of the Biblical Moses, once a prince of Egypt. For me, travelling to Egypt was worth it just to get a glimpse of this magnificent piece of architecture and history. Imagine what those stone eyes have witnessed through the millenniums. . . . . . . . #egypt #visitegypt #historygeek #worldnomads #desertlife #hurghada #visitegypt #sphinx #worldnomads #thevisualscollective #shotoniphone #beautiful_destinations #skyporn #sky_brilliance #ig_sunrisesunset #visitafrica #mycanonstory #timeoutsociety #pyramids #visualsofearth #depthsofearth #awakethesoul #explorers #earth_shotz #natgeoyourshot #sky_sultans #beautifuldestinations #weareexplorers #exploreshareinspire #travelstories

|| My original plan was to move to Oregon at the end of June. I was looking at towns all along the coast, imagining myself spending evenings on the beach, days spent working in some seaside cafe, when I unexpectedly received the job offer in Alaska. ✧ It was hard to choose, especially because I’ve been wanting to live along the pacific coast ever since I first laid eyes on Cannon Beach. . . . So, what’s a girl decide? A three-month compromise! I found the cutest 5x5 efficiency, only $64 a month! My photos and keepsakes will enjoy central air, while I spend the summer in the land of the midnight sun. ✧ At the end of September, we’ll return and probably head toward the coast. Or maybe somewhere else we’ve never been... ——————///—————///—————///————— May the wind under your wings bear you where the sun sails and the moon walks— tolkien ||
