Looking like a The Knife zombie ‍♀️ Anyway, I recently did an interview for @vinylettes in which they let me talk a bit about some musicians that inspire me which in turn inspired me to do this to myself (time-lapse pinned to pageas usual) because Karin Dreijer is one MAJOR inspiration. It all started with the album I'm holding & I’m not going to focus on one Dreijer here, but rather the both of them, but if you want to know what it is about Karin that I admire, you can either go to @vinylettes & click their bio link or mine (for the next 24h). But let’s get into the album at hand, & the reason I’m wearing these incredibly painful contact lenses that I could barely see through. •
In 2001, The Knife’s self titled debut hit the shelves, but for me it felt pretty distant at the time, being focused on, lets say, more accessible things. Add a couple of years, early 2003 & a much more impressionable Mio, this fun, smart, catchy, delicious & god damn perfect electro-pop album came out, not only absolutely stealing all my attention, but it felt like all of Sweden was completely consumed by this mesmerizing, mysterious duo; the absolutely magnificent music videos on repeat on tv, the singles always on the radio, & their faces in every paper. • 15 years on I feel like I’m still just as in love with this album as the first time I heard it. “Heartbeats” is still one of the most captivating love songs, “Is It Medicine” will make me dance my ass off no matter the situation, “Girls’ Night Out”’s synth lead will instantly bring me back to a great night out & Karin Dreijer is still one of my main inspirations; for whatever I’m doing here but also just in life in general. I think she takes admirable good care of her career & art & I could probably write a whole essay on this but not this time. •
