Best of luck to all of those competing in @thehopperwarrior this weekend! This is your chance to test out all of your training and practice. My best advice for those newer to competing at CrossFit:
- It’s much better to hit every workout of the weekend at 90% effort rather than burning out too fast on the first and second. Know what you’re capable of and keep some in the tank for Sunday.
- Hit a PR if you can but also know your limits. Pushing through a minor tweak or injury is a great way to mess yourself up for months and years afterward. It’s not worth it. Take it from me, it’s not worth it!
- Use recovery protocols that you already know work for you. Now’s not the time to try out something new, it’s the time to execute what you’ve already practiced.
- Come prepared nutritionally. Prep out some healthy, easily digestible, real food for the weekend. Leave the free food from the sponsors for your other competitors, if you want more of an edge give them yours! That processed “food like substance” is filled with saturated fats that increase inflammation and swelling in the body, the opposite of what you want for fuel and recovery.
- Avoid alcohol until at least after the competition and be smart. A post competition hangover is about as bad as they get.
- Have fun! Seriously, if you’re not enjoying it (and your career doesn’t rely upon it) there’s not much point in competing.
