KEEP THESE STRONG by @guerrillazen
-
I know I’m beating a dead horse with this one, but reminding you frequently of these things will help drill them in.
-
This will help you learn and internalize the principles I talk about.
-
The list above are the muscles you want to be focusing on (with regard to building/maintaining strength) in order to bulletproof your body and keep it healthy.

So part 1 of my wet set tutorial is finally here, after trying and failing to do it for months! Part 2 will be up in the next few days (would have been ready now if I hadn’t lost my brushout footage - stupid iCloud)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ My hair looks dry in the beginning of the video but I was actually quite damp, I let it air dry for about half an hour after washing it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ I mix my lottabody setting lotion, 1 part lottabody : 2 parts water ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ foam rollers: @scunci @scunciuk ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ setting lotion: lottabody ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ paddle brush and tail comb: @tresemme @tresemmeuk⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ #vintage #vintagestyle #vintagehair #pinup #pinupsofinstagram #oldhollywoodglamour #oldhollywood #1940s #1940sstyle #1940shair #1950s #1950sstyle #1950shair #wetset #ginger #gingerhair #redhead #vintageinspired #vintagehairtutorial #wetsettutorial #foamrollers #lottabody #foamrollertutorial
My dude @camsandland14 going through a different variation of rotation here. I elevated his upper leg to ensure he doesn’t rotate from his lumbar and his focus is on his rib cage and Thoracic. He shouldn’t be able to get flat shoulders here cuz sometimes it’s not how far you can rotate it’s are you rotating properly. Give this a try, create tension with the top leg on the roller, feel adductor, keep bottom leg straight as well.

WHY I DON'T SET MY HAIR WITH BENDY ROLLERS ♀️ Obviously YMMV with these things, but a lot of the principles go for most people's hair!
I used to swear by bendy rollers before switching to foam rollers. Bendy rollers are in no way bad for vintage sets and I enjoyed how quick and easy they were to use; they often made some very nice waves! However, they have several issues that have me preferring other techniques for vintage styles.
The main problem of the bendy roller is you have very little control of the end shape. Since the rods need to be bent to fasten, the individual rolled up curls distort. That bend gives uneven tension and curl, meaning that each sections curl unevenly and unpredictably. Now, this can work very well for the fluffy-all-around-curly-look (pic. 2), but rarely gives a set that will give you the even pageboy-ends curled-under-look.
I have a lot of hair, and to hold styles it needs to be curled with a lot of tension in very fine sections. Since the bendy rods are so bulky, I can't fit enough of them on my head to be able to make thin enough sections to make my sets last. And if I compromise and put as many as I can fit I get so much bulk on my head I can't sleep on it.
Another concern with bendy rods is that they don't allow for a lot or air flow from within. I set my hair dry with setting lotion, and still, my hair will sometimes not dry completely! Nowadays I use them only to quickly reset my hair to help it hold shape overnight. Then I just roll my hair lightly over six or so rods and tie a scarf on top. But I also find that this works just as well with regular big pin curls.
All the sets in the photos were done with bendy rollers and as you can see: nice waves on the lengths, but not a lot of shape and control on the ends! I prefer softer 1940s styles with distinct swoop at the ends and smooth waves through the lengths. This would ideally/historically be done with pin curls, but pin curling just doesn't provide anywhere near enough tension to make my sets last.
Anyhow, let me know if this was in any way helpful or if you have any other vintage (or historical) questions! #vintage #vintagehair #hairstyling
Foam Roller Movements
—
There are a lot of barriers to exercise: motivation, time, weather, safety. While I’m not the biggest proponent of foam rollers, I don’t want to be another barrier by discouraging my clients from using theirs. It is the only form of movement for some people I see. They sit in traffic, sit at work, and then sit on the couch at home.
—
Do I eventually want to help facilitate a healthier lifestyle? Absolutely. Let’s incorporate some walks during the day and maybe a short, 20 minute exercise routine at the end of the day. However, if you’re going to watch 2 hours of Netflix before bed, I’d rather you spend a little of that time moving on a foam roller as opposed to doing nothing.

What do you think? Do these movements feel good for you?
“When I want to be bold about my movement ...
I for sure do not call it exercise!” - Mary Anne Radmacher

It was a great weekend of movement and activities so today this hip opener felt extra good!
-
This particular move stretches the hip flexors (front of the hip), hamstring stretch (bent knee), and the lower back (where my body is connected to roller). -
This is particularly useful if you sit a lot during the day and/or tend to experience lower back pains.

Leave a comment and let me know what are your areas of tightness. What #stretches would you like to see next?
