Today would have been your first birthday, and although we never got to meet each other, no one has ever touched me like you. You taught me so much about me, who I am, what I deserve, what I need, how I need it, and what to not settle for. You allowed me to see first hand how truly dark life and the people in it can be. Time isn’t a healer but it does allow time for understanding and perspective. You touched me in a way I could never explain, its deeper than I could ever put into words, you taught me so much about my mind, my body and my soul which I am eternally thankful for. You chose me at a time where I was physically weak and you came to show me how mentally strong I truly am. “Our woundedness is an opportunity for enlightenment” - anonymous ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This picture is only meant to remind me of how injured I used to be. I had experienced several traumas at the same time about 7 years ago that broke my back and put me in a wheelchair. I felt so paralyzed that I was certain I was dying. I went home to my parents and spent over 3 months wearing heat pads and building my practice back from scratch. I remember it would take me several excruciating minutes just to stand up from seated. I was unable to forward fold. It was the hardest time of my life both physically and emotionally. The daily practice even if restorative and for the incredibly injured, kept me rooted and feeling connected to myself. I breathed through the pain, I showed up day after day, and I’ll still be forever grateful of the woundedness I experienced as it brought me back to myself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Seeing this photo of me now reminds me how much practice it takes to open the heart like this and to be able to backbend. It takes time to expand the muscles of the wings, to spread the arms super wide, and to be able to expose yourself and be vulnerable like this. Opening our hearts is a practice so please remember to be patient with yourself.
