We both ended up sobbing. 13 years ago when Spooks was declawed the vet we were going to said they could do it while he was getting fixed. They assured us that it was a “simple procedure” and that he’d be fine and that he was young enough he “probably wouldn’t even notice they’re missing”. And I was young and naive enough to believe them. When I found out the truth years later I was beyond devastated. How could I have let them butcher my baby to make some extra money with a completely unnecessary procedure? I regret what we did to Spooks (and Mew) EVERY. DAY. Every time I see him wince slightly when he walks, or pulls his paw away quickly when I stroke it - I feel my heart break into a million pieces. And I can’t fix it, but I can vow to never EVER do it again. And so can you. PLEASE educate yourselves. Don’t declaw. There are so many other options. I definitely recommend finding a vet you trust who just flat out refuses to do the procedure. (Like the AMAZING @parkanimalhospital.ca if you’re local to the Mississauga/Etobicoke area!) And definitely watch the #pawproject documentary. Heck, if you’re local I will even lend you my copy.
