⁠ Abandoned blue chapel, Italy⁠ ▪▫▪▫▪▫▪▫▪▫▪⁠ The Blue Chapel (La Chiesa Blue) is a classic abandoned 19th Century church, in the hilly countryside of Italy. It has been abandoned since the 2000s.⁠ The main room of the chapel is bright and airy, light pours in through windows to give a warm feeling to the main chamber. The windows either side of the sanctuary, where the altar is located, are tinted blue which gives the light at the far end of the church a vivid blue/turquoise colour cast. In the middle of the sanctuary, hanging above the altar, is a cross. I was never a big “I wanna travel the world” person. From a young age, I was a “college, degree, job, house, kids” person. I was going to follow the normal life. After six months and $26k wasted at a top engineering school, I dropped out for the first time. It didn’t fit right. I was depressed and completely thrown. What the hell was I gonna do? I started taking classes at local colleges and working. That proved once again unsuccessful. Another $8k wasted. Then I tried again. $6k wasted at a community college for a fall semester going for a business degree. Then I moved halfway across the country to live and work at a ski mountain just to come back and for a fall and spring semester to waste more money just to drop out a go to Chernobyl instead of taking finals. I should have taken a gap year and realized what I wanted to do. But a lot like other people I’ve met that went through the same struggle, college wasn’t for me. I’ve learned a lot and my current career path was no where near what I expected it to be but it has helped to travel to different parts of the world and experience everything I never knew I wanted to experience. College isn’t for everyone. I’m not saying don’t go, but give yourself more options than following the norm. You’d be surprised with what you’re really good at.
