Day 13/100 One step closer to painting with acrylics: Holbein’s Acrylagouache. Not actually gouache. Rather, a matte acrylic. Gotta watch those precious brushes because it dries very fast. But the ability to paint lights over darks and not have any of the dark layer underneath disrupted? That’s magic. I’m beginning to understand that with every different medium there are trade offs. The biggest trade off with Acrylagouache is the loss of the leftover paint that didn’t make it onto your piece. I don’t think there’s anyway to save it. So you have to be very careful about how much you squeeze out of the tube because this stuff is very high quality and it comes at a price. It’s a great lesson in letting go. . . . . . . Day 17/100 #golovewild Many of us are aware that the Instagram algorithm is making us very sad. Some of my very best posts get very few likes and some random posts of mine go viral (at least compared to my other posts ). . . . I wish that I could see every post from the accounts that I follow and that everyone who follows me would see all of my posts. But this is something that we cannot control. . . . I read a post today by @cloversetlettering that @boundforyou.in added to her story and it got me thinking. What if we weren’t so selective with our double tapping? I look at my stats. I see the number of people that see my posts and the number of likes I get. What if we all decided simply to support all of the artists that we choose to follow by double tapping on all of their posts? Would that be a way to help artists out? It sure couldn’t hurt. (Edited to note: scrolling and double tapping really fast from one post to the next will make IG think you are a bot, so slow down if you have to and take the time to really look at the posts as you go.) . . . I don’t know if it would help but I’m going to make a huge effort to go crazy loving on all of the artistic posts that I see, whether or not I “feel” like it in that moment, simply because the art/craft community on IG is too important to me to let this dumb algorithm keep making everyone sad. This community exists for one main reason: to spread the love of art and the creative process. So can we all agree to go love wild? . . . P.s. I’m now officially one day ahead on the project, which will allow me to skip a day when I need to! . . .
