The first of our homegrown organic apples! This wasn’t even a proper harvest, it’s just the windfalls - but what a crop so far! Some have the odd peck from a bird, some took a bruise or two on their way down, others are perfect. I don’t know what kind of apples these are, though a friend did think they were an heirloom variety. They’re tart, juicy & they oxidise/brown up quickly once bitten & exposed to the air (unlike some of that scarily sterile supermarket fruit!) I honestly love my pods, haven’t touched em and they still produce, by some means of a miracle, such amazing, ample produce! I also gifted toilet paper, yes you heard me! I ordered @whogivesacraptp in bulk from @tri_natural and I’ve been spreading the word to anyone who will listen about how good and ethical it is! Local honey from my housemate Liby @libeeshoney and a few eggs the girls laid fresh. *The strawberries were sourced locally from my green grocer @tbonesfresh to support the farmers. Tadaaaa!!! So excited to be finally getting #fruit from the #orchard at #SophiesPatch now that it is caged and the birds can’t get in........ well most of them. At the moment we are loving the early #plums and #apricots but looking forward to the succession of fruit from over 100 trees. The #vegiepatch is pumping too at long last, despite my delayed plantings and the basket of supersized #springonions #squash and #zucchini are the ones that got away from me in the last week!? One of the greatest gifts of living on the one patch for a long time is the deep connection to place it gives you, the relationship to it's subtle seasons, the ebb and flow of plantlife, wildlife and waterways and the energies that flow through the land. It also gifts the satisfaction of harvest, the deep reward for past labours. The longer I spend here the more I yearn for the days I can just immerse myself in it's landscape, tend the garden and just be. Today was one of those days, my heart is full and I am grateful.
