Man-morlak or man-djiribitj? In the Maningrida region, we do have two species of ’Kakadu plums’ (terminalia ferdinandiana): in the Kuninjku language the better-known tall tree called Man-morlak and a short scrub called Man-djirripirj. We did have both sub-species recently tested (thank you @kakaduplumalliance !) and we can confirm that both species have exactly the same very high amount of vitamin C. They have both been used as bush medicine for thousands of years. Pictures featuring Leila Nimbadja and Stuart Ankin on harvesting trips.

Bobo márdakudj! // goodbye Kakadu plums, in Ndjébbana, the language of the traditional owners of Maningrida. We are excited today to send our order of one tonne of Kakadu plums out on the Maningrida barge going to a wholesaler based in Darwin. This is our largest order to date, and harvesting all these plums was a community-wide effort, with people from all the language groups around Maningrida supplying plums to us. 70% of the income from this sale returning directly back to our harvesters.
