Es ist World-IBD-Tag! Also der Welt-Tag für chronische Darmerkrankungen. Das Video entstand im Sommer vor meiner Kolektomie. Ich verlor stätig an Gewicht und wurde künstlich ernährt. Bis heute komme ich nicht zu Kräften. Auch wenn durch die Entfernung meines Dickdarms dafür sorgt, dass ich nun auf dem Papier fast als geheilt gelte, leide ich immernoch an den Folgeerkrankungen. I've been getting IV saline infusions at home for the past year, and it's been transformative. The way I explain it is that I was so severely ill I felt like I was dying, and now I "just" feel like a sick and disabled person. Maybe that doesn't sound great, but for me, it's wonderful and so encouraging. I'm still in chronic pain, need a feeding tube and have many other struggles, but I have more strength to deal with it. I can climb the stairs and go for walks. However, getting one or two peripherals a week for a year has consequences and isn't a long term solution. It's gotten harder and more painful to place IVs. So the next step is to place a midline, a semipermanent IV line that can stay in for months and, unlike a PICC, can be placed in the home and doesn't terminate in the superior vena cava, so lower infection risk. They aren't used often and most people don't even know they exist, but for a lot of people a PICC is actually overkill and a midline would be a good solution. Anyway it's been almost 2 months of delays and problems I'm excited to say that tomorrow I will finally be getting it placed! Stay tuned! (PS I will most likely be getting a port at some point but this is a good solution for right now while we try to figure that out).
