What actually makes the LB7 injectors fail? - This is easily the biggest flaw for the Duramax LB7 engine, which was the first engine produced in the Duramax family. One of the biggest things to be concerned with is contaminated fuel. Dirty fuel, water in the fuel, etc, will cause premature wear on the injectors. This goes for almost all common rail injectors. - The LB7 injectors are also under the valve covers. If the high pressure lines are over torqued or reused, they can leak which allows fuel to enter the crankcase. This also leads to those injectors not getting the proper amount of fuel which in return will cause them to wear out much quicker. - The biggest flaw comes from the factory. These injectors have a ball seat in them which seals off the injector. This was not hardened so it erodes over time from use. This is where the injectors lose their efficiency and start spraying more fuel when they aren’t supposed to. In 2007, they switched to a chrome seat which holds up much better. - The LB7 injectors are also known to leak on the top between the solenoid and the cap. So fuel would trickle down the side of the injector which introduces fuel into the crankcase. - If you own an LB7, most likely the injectors have been replaced or you will have to replace them at some point. It is important to keep them fed with clean and well lubricated fuel. A good lift pump with filters also helps remove air in the fuel and any other unwanted dirt! - #Duramax #LB7 #Injectors
