Performing great in practice, but having trouble to perform in games is a common issue for many athletes. This can be so frustrating and affect your mentality poorly. - One has to understand that this occurs because of how you think before a game in comparison to how you think before a practice. - - ☝️During practice you probably don't even think. You just play without any pressure to perform or any worry about failing. This leads to a relaxed way of playing which is essential to perform great in soccer. - ✌️On the other hand, during games you start to think about everything that can go wrong and what is at stake. You focus on the future rather than the present moment. Perceived pressure and outcome-centered focus result in nervousness and tightness which impairs you ability to perform. - So what can you do to get over this mental blockage? You need to change your perspective on competition. Realize that games are not as important as you think. Treat the game like its a practice. Don't worry about the future, focus only on what's happening right now. - Discipline yourself to recognize the instant your focus of concentration heads towards anything related to the outcome. Once you become aware that you are in the future concentrating on the outcome, then you want to quickly return your focus to the task at hand in the present. - - ⚽️Easier said than done, but if you really try to understand this concept it will give you great success. Keep your head in the present moment.
