BUT the other true moments are the harder, non-glorified moments that we don't talk about or really see in movies or romance novels. These are the things that deepen your marriage, that build intimacy and love in places you didn't think that it could.⠀ Tobin and I love each other very much, but with that comes a lot of butting heads and conversations that frankly I would rather not have! ⠀ The other day I wanted to take a picture of him while we were out for breakfast and he gave me attitude because he was hangry, and resulted in a silent breakfast because we were too mad to say anything! ⠀ Another great one that happened the other day my husband yelled from the bathroom, "Dear! I need some TP!" ⠀ Or even everyday when Tobin or I get home from work, we always kiss the other hello and give each other a hug⠀ Guys, THIS is what marriage is!⠀ It is those everyday moments that make up the intimacy, deep connection, and intentionality behind those bigger well known quotes I said above. How will you be intentional in your relationship today?⠀ ⠀ Tobin and I love writing little notes to each other. Especially on the weeks where we are really busy and seem to only see each other briefly for dinner before going to bed. This is our way of being intentional in a busy season. ⠀ ⠀ Now you may have a different love language, and that's ok! Think of what your significant other's love language is and then do something for them with that in mind. You'll be amazed at how much they will feel loved and how that will deepen your relationship.⠀ ⠀ Also, this doesn't even have to apply to a romantic relationship, this applies to alllll relationships! I’d be lying if I said Kid’s Church always went smoothly. But these moments are what it’s all about. I get it...not everyone feels called to children’s ministry, but we’re all called to make disciples. Some people tell me they don’t know how I do this every Sunday or why I would want to. The phrase “use of self” refers to the ways that a therapist reflects or uses their own feelings, thoughts, or experiences to enhance the process of therapy. Use of self should be utilized thoughtfully and with intent. The purpose of use of self is to both build and develop rapport as as well as to increase patient engagement and thereby facilitate a better outcome during the OT process. I think, like with everything else in this world that matters, it takes practice combined with a little luck and kindness to develop this skill set. Within every person is the innate ability to use/incorporate their thoughts and personal revelations for the betterment of others and/or for the purpose of creating an even opportunity playing field as such in the case as a therapist that is trying to help the patient help herself rather than the patient continuing to be dependent on the therapist for decision making. With intentional practice it becomes easier and more natural to incorporate use of self in clinical practice. It can be a serious game changer in your OT Toolbox❤️! It might be the tool that illicits readiness to participate fully in OT treatment in a patient who is on the less than motivated side.
