I learned this week in Sketchbook Skool’s Colored Pencils: Sharpen Your Skills, that old sharpeners just don’t cut it. Despite this one being decades old, it still shaved a nice full curl off of my pencil...a sign of a good sharpener. So I’m keeping it. The cutest baby blue jay decided that my potted lantana plant was a great place to hangout all day on Monday. I avoided watering my favorite flower, in fear of getting pecked on the head by momma jay!!! They are so fiercely protective! On Tuesday, the babe was gone and watering of the aforementioned favorite plant resumed. All is well. #everydaymatters #lantana #bluejay

Baby girl and I are doing... [be honest, Courtney] ... exactly as we ought to be at two weeks postpartum. Wyatt is absolutely dreamy. Truly. But... It’s been as ugly as healing often demands. Everything on my body is leaky and swollen. And I suffered a bizarre immune response to birth/surgery and became covered head to toe in pancake sized hives that are vastly more painful than the English language can explain. And sweet Wyatt is learning about the ins and outs of her digestive system, which also means she’s needing a lot of close holding all night long. And my dog apparently also needs close contact. And my eldest kid *accidentally* drank espresso and it is basically the most insane thing I’ve witnessed. And my middle one wakes up in the morning and asks (every hour until 10pm), “what are we doing for fun after this?” And and and. But then, there’s also the fact that I have support and that the wonderful people in my crew are in comforting cahoots with the ugliness. They don’t get scared when I am weepy, and they keep me laughing. It’s for that reason that I can be 100% present for all of it. Which means I feel joy in the midst of the mess. So, there you have it. Rock on fellow caretakers.
