LETS TALK SKIN! This topic is near and dear to my heart because I lived for 5 years with this horrific face rash, known as perioral dermatitis. For the first 4 months, when it was most severe, I didn’t leave my house. My husband did everything, shopping, carting kids around and working full time while I lived day in and day out confined to my house with a raw kefir mask on my face all day long. It provided the most relief from the itching, burning and redness. ———————————————————————— I immersed myself in research and self experimentation to heal my skin after the Stanford dermatology department deemed me the worse case they’d ever seen. Their response, “you’ll need to learn to live with it”. How dare!?! They had no idea who they were talking to! I began weaning myself off the GAPS protocol, removing all triggers, and learning a deep level of humility by wearing no makeup. Eventually my skin was “manageable”. I could hide weekly flares under makeup....and I’d come to accept that my flawed rashy skin was my new norm. Every day I would wake up and see where my new patch of rash would be. I lived this way for 4 more years. AND THEN CELERY JUICE ENTERED MY LIFE! AND SO DID INCREDIBLE UNDERSTANDING OF THE STATE OF MY SICK LIVER! Thank you @medicalmedium! Within weeks of drinking it, I stopped having flares. I began slowly incorporating the #lifechangingfoods and removed the troubling foods. And today, 7 months later, I still remain 100% free of the rash. Not one reoccurrence. My skin is more vibrant and clear now than it’s ever been in my life. I don’t wear much makeup today, but not because i can’t ...but because I don’t need to. Despite the long road I still have ahead to regain my health, this contrasting photo is a tangible reminder that my body CAN heal. And so can yours. ♥️ Knowing the truth behind illness brings a new hope to healing!———————————————————————— Stay tuned for my next few posts as I address: 1. What is the root cause of skin disorders? 2. What changes I made/am making in my lifestyle to heal my liver, ( the secret to glowing skin)!! 3. What clean products I now use for skin care & makeup. ———————————————————————— #nomakeup (minus mascara )

. A transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is a device that can help some people with advanced liver disease. The liver contains 2 important types of blood vessels. The portal vein carries nutrient-rich blood from the abdominal organs to the liver. The hepatic veins drain blood from the liver that eventually returns to the heart. Normally, these large veins are connected to each other by many smaller vessels. People with advanced liver disease (including cirrhosis) can have increased pressure in these small vessels, which can lead to high portal vein pressure, known as portal hypertension. Portal hypertension can lead to serious complications, including varices and ascites. Varices are enlarged veins in the esophagus and stomach that can burst and cause massive bleeding and death. Ascites is an abnormal buildup of fluid in the belly that can lead to discomfort, infections, malnutrition, and death. The TIPS procedure decreases pressure in the portal vein and can thus relieve some of these complications. ▫️ Source:American Medical Association ▫️ ▫️ #doctor #medicine #medical #health #medschool#medstudent #learning #nurse #futuredoctor #healthyliving#pharmacist #cardiology #scientist #treatment#university #doctors #study #article #medicalnotes #illustration #med #transjugularintrahepaticportosystemicshunt #liverdisease #medicina #medikal #medicalguidelines @medical_guidelines

There's just a little over 2 years difference in the time these pictures were taken. It really is amazing how much can change in a short period of time. This isn't about weight loss or diet this is about the change from a life pain, depression, and sickness, to a life of peace, happiness, and good health. Two years seems fast and if you just look at me or other people on Instagram you might get a false sense of what it actually takes to change for the better. There's no quick fix and there's no easy button. It takes a few big steps and many many small steps to create a happier healthier life. For me, the big steps were getting sober and learning to live one day at a time. The small steps are too numerous to post. My life is not perfect and there are setbacks but with the help of my higher power, I try not to let a setback stop me from reaching my goals. We can all freedom from whatever is holding us back from a happier life, but with that freedom comes responsibility and more responsibility can be very scary. When we are controlled by fear we are putting our faith in the negative rather than in the positive. Not making positive changes because you fear the possible negatives effects means you are placing your faith in the wrong outcome. Try to move in love and put faith in the positive. #sober #sobriety #recovery #odaat #recovery #cirrhosis #liverdisease #healing #health #transformation #transformationtuesday #weightloss #health #smallsteps #moveinlove #movefromfear #faith #positivity

CLC MEMBER FEATURE: My name is Kendall and I am 25-years-old. I was diagnosed with a rare pediatric liver disease called Biliary Atresia when I was 8 weeks old. It was then that I had my first of six major abdominal surgeries. The only cure for Biliary Atresia is a liver transplant which my dad was the living donor for. Unfortunately, due to a life-threatening aneurysm, I needed a second transplant from a deceased donor only weeks later. After my second transplant, I ended up with a surgical complication requiring me to live with a tube in my liver that necessitated that I undergo a procedure under general anesthesia every 6 weeks for 11 years. • My prognosis was to wait to become sick enough for a third liver transplant until I finally met a surgeon who thought he could fix my problem. After a year of making the decision that doctors across the country advised against, I had the surgery and have been tube free and problem free ever since. I'm finally living the life afforded to me by my third liver -- one of health and freedom. • I now work as a producer and correspondent for Mic, the leading digital news outlet for millennials, where I get to share stories of tremendous struggle and resilience, but this time, the story is not my own. My battle with a chronic illness has informed the way I tell the stories of others and the way I connect with people. I believe that there is power in weakness and in sickness because it is in these times of vulnerability that we learn how to be truly powerful, by simply being powerful for other people. By experiencing our own pain, we can understand and care for the pain of others. There's nothing more powerful than that. • This photo is of my stomach one year after the surgery that changed my life. I have always been extremely self-conscious of my scars and scar tissue, but I feel pretty badass in this picture. #chronicloveclub

This body may be imperfectly scarred with 16 ugly surgical incisions. But, with each one of those surgeries and each one of those scars, this body has allowed me to become stronger and more capable of things I never even knew existed inside myself. They have changed who I am in beautiful ways, by allowing me to feel love, compassion, understanding and empathy in such a profound and unique way. They have given me a way to connect with so many of you beautiful warriors fighting your own battles. They have rewritten the story I thought I would have, and turned it into a journey of blood, sweat & tears, defeat followed by triumph, sadness and anger followed by gratitude and hope. They have filled my world with beautiful, challenging chaos. It’s hard to be resentful of this journey that has molded me into a person I am really proud to be and has given me so much to grateful for. No matter where you’re at in your own journey, don’t forget to slow down and breathe. Remember your scars tell your own unique story, the one that only you can tell. Above all, NEVER forget that you have a village of other warriors fighting along side you, rallying you on from wherever we are.♥️ #neverlosehope #youarestrongerthanyouthink #connectivetissuedisease #lupus #POTS #delayedorthostatichypotension #ehlersdanlossyndrome #EDS #mastcellactivationdisorder #multiplepneumothoraces #pulmonaryembolismsurvivor #pulmonaryembolism #blooddisorder #asthma #ménièrsdisease #hyperbilirubinemia #liverdisease #sibo #gerd #ibs #leakygut #sphincterofoddidysfunction #chronicmigraines #pinealglandbraincyst #mthfrgenemutation #wecandohardthings

⁣⠀ Screen for Liver Cancer in Patients at Risk⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ In the last 20 years in the U.S., the incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma has tripled from about 2 to 7 per 100,000 adults. ⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ In addition to the rising incidence, the cancer is also one of the most deadly, with a 5-year survival rate of only 18%.⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ Physicians should be on the lookout for patients with diseases that precede a HCC diagnosis and should suggest screening if appropriate.⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ Two groups of patients should be screened for HCC: those with cirrhosis and all hepatitis B carriers, according to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines.⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ Anyone with these diseases or conditions is at risk for HCC — but only if their disease first proceeds to cirrhosis.⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ Hepatitis B is the exception. An estimated 30% to 50% of patients with HCC and hepatitis B do not have cirrhosis. ⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ Hence, the recommendation is that all patients with hepatitis B be screened, including those who do not have cirrhosis.⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ You can read more about this "bad actor" on Tap the bio link to join Medscape.com now. ⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ #doctor #physician #medstudent #medicalstudent #futuredoctor #medscape #medicine #healthcare #medical #medscape #healthcare #oncologist #oncology #oncologynurse #oncología #oncologico #oncologie #Cancer #cancerresearch #carcinoma #liverdisease #carcinoma
