I don’t know about you but the older I get, the more I grow, the more I crave simplicity. I used to have this idea that more, bigger, better, and expansion was what led to a more fulfilled life. Until that life led me in circles without a moment to breathe. Until that life was sucking away my ability to be present and appreciate all that was in front of me. It took me opening up a large business, on top of my practice, to realize that this wasn’t going to be the source of *my* fulfillment. So since then, my life has been quite the opposite. It’s been a means of decluttering in every aspect. Cultivating connection with myself and others, based on less. Living more simply. That doesn’t mean I don’t crave expansion, its just that the definition has just shifted for me completely. Wherever you are in your journey, I hope you can embrace the true parts of what make life fulfilling. I hope that when it comes down to it, the way you spend your days will connect to your core values. And I hope if you run off course (which you will), you are brave enough to change direction. #nytherapist

Adding on to this: so often we try to minimize or talk down to our own pain and struggles. As if whatever we are facing, even if it’s self inflicted, is “stupid”, “silly”, or “ridiculous”. My friends we have to start here. If we cannot value our experiences, our pain, exactly where we are - how can we expect to move from here? The work that we need starts with the foundation we grow from, and whatever we are feeling, doing, being is the foundation. It’s also super important to understand why invalidating your own experiences has become a habit. Where does this functioning come from? Why is that the automatic way? If you are struggling to create momentum with where you are, start with the struggles of accepting where you are. Validating that how you feel, the way you function, and what is currently happening makes sense. That doesn’t mean it’s working or that we can continue doing it - sometimes it requires acceptance to realize how self destructive we are being - but start with where you are. The more you can own it, the more we can grow from it. We cannot expect to create this loving, healthy relationship with ourselves if we aren’t willing start that relationship with exactly where we are. #nytherapist
