According to Queen bass player John Deacon, Freddie Mercury did most of the songwriting on this, although everyone contributed. The lyrics deal with how pressure can destroy lives, but love can be the answer. The lyrics are characteristic of Mercury's songwriting.

Deacon however did come up with the iconic two-note bass riff, although it came very close to vanishing: according to Roger Taylor in the Days of our Lives documentary, Deacon came up with the riff, then the band went for pizza before coming back to continue rehearsals. Upon returning, Deacon had completely forgotten his idea! Luckily, Taylor eventually remembered how the bassline went. • Brian May recalled to Mojo magazine October 2008. "It was hard, because you had four very precocious boys and David, who was precocious enough for all of us. David took over the song lyrically. Looking back, it's a great song but it should have been mixed differently. Freddie and David had a fierce battle over that." • The two singers first met a dozen years before they recorded the song. Let's Wish A Happy Birthday to our legendary guitarist of the day Mr. JEFF HEALEY (Norman Jeffrey "Jeff" Healey March 25, 1966 – March 2, 2008) was a Canadian jazz and blues-rock vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter who attained musical and personal popularity, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s. What made Jeff Healey different from other blues-rockers was also what kept some listeners from accepting him as anything other than a novelty: the fact that the blind guitarist played his guitar on his lap, not standing up. With the guitar in his lap, Healey could make unique bends and hammer-ons, making his licks different and more elastic than most of the competition. This is a man that lived, breathed and delighted in the wonders of music and you can hear form the solos that tear, weep and spiral out of the speakers the passion inherent in Jeff’s playing style. Healey lost his sight at the age of one, after developing eye cancer. Healey formed the Jeff Healey Band in 1985, featuring bassist Joe Rockman and drummer Tom Stephen. Before an untimely passing in 2008, Jeff Healey toured ceaselessly, eventually growing in prominence to be one of the more world-renowned blues guitarists of his time. Blind and with a unique playing style, Healey's approach to the blues was all his own. And our legendary guitar solo of the day is the solo performed in "ANGEL EYES" by the legend himself. "Angel Eyes" is a song written by John Hiatt and Fred Koller appears on The Jeff Healey Band's first album See the Light released in (1988).
