Hoje entreguei os meus escritos às professoras da banca examinadora para, enfim, dar um importante passo rumo à obtenção de meu título de mestre em Psicologia. Mas, ao contrário de sentir alívio, senti uma imensa angústia. E isso me fez chorar. Muito. (Para quem acha que psicólogos não padecem disso - está mal informado!). A sensação não é de dever cumprido, mas de uma necessidade de me implicar mais com minha pesquisa, com meu processo. Talvez haja alguma dose de insegurança de não ter entregue um material bom o suficiente. . . Mas, a verdade é que essas linhas não falam só do meu percurso de pesquisa no mestrado. Esse trabalho, que está só no começo, diz algo importante da minha trajetória profissional. Do desafio que foi voltar à Universidade onde me formei depois de tantos anos, ocupar a cadeira de estudante que eu sempre amei, mas que tem os seus percalços. Desafio de construir um conhecimento consistente, que pudesse levar alguma contribuição prática para a minha comunidade; de atender a demanda académica quando muitos momentos me demandavam descanso, pausa e atenção pra outras dimensões da vida. . . É aí que me dou conta que nem todo ciclo que se fecha vai tirar os pesos das nossas costas. Às vezes, esse peso persiste e ainda sinaliza a chegada de uma responsabiliz(ação) ainda maior. . . É assim que termino o dia. Mais angustiada e menos aliviada do que gostaria. Que esse mal-estar me sirva de combustível para buscar avançar em meu propósito. . . Compartilho esse pequeno recorte da minha história para que ninguém acredite que as conquistas como são estampadas nas fotos do Instagram retratam a realidade do que se vive nos bastidores da vida. When we start thinking about applying to PA or Med school, one of the questions that will come to your mind is: How many schools should I apply?. If I apply to a high # of schools, would that increase my chances of getting in?. Well, I’m sure different answers will work for different students, as we are unique!. I didn’t want to move from my brand new home, and I was lucky that two of the best PA schools were in my town. So the first factor I considered was: •LOCATION. I only applied to three schools. So, I had my make sure my application looked impecable. I focused my application mainly on my top choice school and its requirements. Pay attention to those minimum requirements! If you don’t meet the minimum, they won’t even look at your application. So, my second factor I focused on was: •MEETING THOSE REQUIREMENTS. Third, I reached out to the school and planned a meeting with their PA program admission director. I came to the meeting well-prepared: with a list of “smart” questions, dressed to impress, cause of course I wanted that she recognized my name when they were selecting applicants. I told her that I wanted to make sure I was one the top applicants they had that year and asked what were the most important characteristics they were looking for in an applicant. Like I said, I don’t think the number of schools you apply to matters. I applied to 3 schools, got 3 interview invites and got accepted to two (I ended up declining my third invite bc I was already accepted into my top choice program). Hope this helped! A lot of the stress we put on ourselves (especially towards the end of our programs) ties back to the idea of what we’ll do/be with our degrees once we’re done. But nothing says that we have to do/be what everyone else expects of us.
