Normally it would take a chicken 96 days to reach 2kg; however, broiler chickens have been genetically manipulated to reach this weight in just 35 days. Yesterday 200 activists in total inside and outside took over a pig farm in The Netherlands for 12 hours. We were locked inside the farm by the police which we later found out was for our safety to protest us from the hundreds of farmers who were swarming the area, assaulting activists in the outside team, putting meat on our cars, slashing the tyres and flipping them upside down in ditches. . The horrors we saw inside were unimaginable. Pigs from all different stages of life, from farrowing crates with mothers and their newborns, to growing pens with babies separated from their mothers, to gestation crates with adult females held prisoners in individual cages waiting to be impregnated. . The farm was riddled with disease. Piglets who have been left to go insane with blood all over their snouts from cannibalising each others ears due to boredom and frustration. Pigs even had missing ears with severe infections from this constant trauma, especially the piglets with other signs of illness. Others unable to walk with open wounds, sores, large swellings and symptoms of potential meningitis such as twitching, convulsing and collapse due to starvation and filthy living conditions. . Approximately 100 activists were arrested and held in a cell over night who have just been released. The activists who wanted to remain anonymous are still being held in custody. The action was covered on the live news at the time and nationwide by all major Dutch newspapers and news channels. . Meat The Victims - Netherlands 2 days ago we have occupied a pig farm in The Netherlands. What we have witnessed during the 10 hours we stayed there was nothing less than a modern day concentration camp. Little baby piglets dead and thrown in a bucket along with organs, rotting, horrible smell that burns your lungs, pigs squealing for freedom, hurting one another, all of them born to await their death. All we did was in the name of peace and nothing but peace. We made a statement against injustice and oppression, while around 200 angry farmers gathered around and flipped our cars over and damaged them, put meat on them to provoke us and violently attacked people on our outside team. The result? the cops attacked our activists aggressively, we got arrested and treated like criminals. They forced me to sleep on the cold hard floor with no blanket, denied me shower, gave me 2 slices of soft white toast bread for breakfast and the same for lunch, were rude to me and hung up on me when I made requests and threatened me to keep me there for way longer than they were supposed to in the first place. All this because I wanted to help someone who desperately needed it. Do you call this justice? We are now all safe and this experience has brought us all closer and made us stronger.
