whenever i heard the saying “you will find your bridesmaids through miss america” i used to silently giggle. i never could wrap my head around how a competition could bring you the closest of friends. my miss america experience was more than the ordinary, i met 50 amazing women who would soon become my rock, supporters, and my largest inspirations. i can’t begin to imagine my life without them. thank you to laura (@lauramatrazzo), emili (@emilimcphail), and callie (@little.calliewalker), for coming to support me on the conclusion of the year of a life time. i am truly blessed to have sisters like you ♥️ #missamerica2019

let’s talk many may not know this, but I competed in one local as a teen and if I could go back in time and give myself the biggest hug, I would. Because I now realize how much strength I took to step out on faith and into the unknown in the midst of battling issues, I could feel that signing up to compete was something I was called to do, and so I got the paperwork for the Miss Harvest Homecoming’s Outstanding Teen Pageant, @misshhcpageants (without asking my mom, haha) without having the funds to compete, or a clue as to what I was doing, I continued to press forward and figure it all out (thanks to @shannonn73, @mrscaraelise and my health teacher... yes, my health teacher) I fought and fought hard to make it all happen (and you can too, reach out to people, ask friends and family to help you on whatever crazy journey it is you want to venture toward... okay, back to my story) I HAD TO COMPETE I can even remember my mom and I going into DEB, and purchasing a $15 gown I had no clue what I was doing, but I knew I had to do it I believe God had me, a clueless young girl, whose family didn’t have hundreds of dollars to spend, compete in a pageant just so another young girl with a similar story would have the courage to do it too. If you don’t ever start (despite your circumstance), how will you ever reach where you ultimately want to be also, the first pic is me when I won Miss Harvest Homecoming, FOUR years after competing as a teen. How appropriate that Nina’s last day as Miss Idaho fell on National Best Friend Day! The best part of the Miss America telecast was when it was announced that Nina made the finals. I remember bending over and screaming because I was so excited for her and it didn’t even matter to me that I didn’t make it. I can’t believe it’s already time for this Top Ten finalist, speed-reader, genius, writer, world-traveler, bff, and forever Miss Idaho to give up her crown today. I’m so grateful Miss America brought us together and am looking forward to the years of friendship ahead of us. Cheslie Kryst, 28, won the Miss USA contest, and Kaliegh Garris, 18, won Miss Teen USA — joining Nia Franklin, 25, who was crowned as the 2019 @missamerica in September. Our name NIA means purpose Also, I have So many captions in my head and I can’t decide what one to go with. {do you have a better one?} . . I was sooo excited when @niaimanifranklin won #MissAmerica our name #Nia is not common, and what are the odds a Miss USA and a Miss America would both have the same unique name?! So of course we became Instagram friends months ago, and now that she’s in LA for a trip, we had to meet up! We talked for hours and I love her soul! . . I also love that she is down to find the “good light” ✨ for our picture. haha. We stepped outside to take a pic (the originals are on my insta stories) ... but the lighting was just okay ... so when I suggested that we head to another spot around the corner....
