Mothering is amazing but hardwork! Just because someone looks 'glam' 'so put together' and confident (on the surface), it doesn't mean they are suffering less! ------------------- We've been reading around othis important campaign, and although Anni & I are not qualified MDs, we've signposted a few accounts, and ask you to tag more experts to raise awareness. We talk to many mums and grandmothers through dadima's, and they often share powerful and moving stories of life challenges, and how they've managed to 'keep it together', be 'resilient' and 'bounce back'. 'It's okay not to be okay', but not everyone has the confidence to share how they feel, for fear of being judged. As a community, we have a responsibility to support and reach out to new mums, and show them that they're not alone. ------------- There's never a 'right' way to mother/parent, and I'm still learning! Through such campaigns, we have more chance of feeling confident to cope through support networks. For me, as a young mother of South-Asian background (I had 2 girls by 24), my challenges felt different, and today, accounts like @thebrownpsychologist are raising awareness about South-Asian mental health issues for mums, and the complex cultural & psychological influences at play. Whilst there are nurturing benefits to the extended family, there are also cultural & psychological pressures to live up to expectations. ------------------- Check in on a new mum (and partner) through an act of kindness to show you're #thereforeher & #loveher - and remember... it's not just new mums who need support; the mothering journey is a lifelong one, and the challenges change.
