Often overlooked by traditional training programs, lumbopelvic stability is a main focus of Pilates practice. A few weeks ago, I had some newer students attempt hip circles and the looks on their faces were priceless when they couldn't figure out how to keep their pelvis from rocking while circling their legs. _____ So, using #hipcircles as the goal, I developed this progression with the #smallball. This video is PART 1: ️ Pelvis securely on the ball, compress the abdominals in and begin marches. ️ Increasing the difficulty, try single leg kicks from table top. ️ Diagonal single leg kicks from table top (to stabilize the pelvis while introducing hip rotation). ️ Move the ball under the ribs and add deeper #coreconnection by focusing on ribcage closure during abdominal curls. ️ Activate #obliques engagement while rolling the ball out to the side. _____ My next post will show PART 2, progressing to the hip circles. One exercise / two perspectives ✔✔ SWIPE for more exercises. _____ I'm using a 10 inch ball , not fully inflated, and a medium resistance theraband. The band is crossed ✖ in all three demos. _____ ️Elevated plié with lateral arm raises - great for firing the inner thigh connection which resonates up through the core to stabilize the pelvis. The arm raises actually assist your balance to get a nice deep plié. ️Leg swings with triceps kickbacks - since you already have your hamstrings recruited to hold the ball, you really have to squeeze those glutes to get the heel up behind you! ️ Swing the leg diagonally behind you - like you're trying to kick your opposite shoulder. Also! I did the arms opposite, if you notice between the two ‍♀️. I think I like the rear view arms better - but switch it up and test your coordination! _____ _____ Wearing @ellieactivewear _____

I love that there are so many variations, props and evolutionary movements in Pilates. This abdominal series is great on the mat, roller, with small ball under pelvis, over barrel . . . So many options! Here, the Swiss ball provides a good challenge to pelvic control and is brilliant for opening the chest and front of shoulders.
