You all know me well enough to know i don’t ever post about world crisis because I’m not the type to put up a #PrayFor hashtag and forget about it. I do what i can in person & in silence because that’s how i support a cause. But what can i do here ? This picture almost brought me to tears. I’m posting it because I’m at a loss for words. What can we do to help ? Someone please tell me how to help, and please don’t give me that “spread awareness” bullshit THIS IS SLAVERY ! What happened in Christchurch is a result of people in Goverment and the media inciting fear and creating division for political and personal gain. . Enough of the back story about the attacker. I don’t need to see his face or hear his name repeatedly. The face of hatred is all too familiar. . I don’t need to know his personal agenda. I don’t need to know what he was like as a child. The media has filled news feeds with stories about the main attacker and opinions of expert analysts. They try desperately to humanise the attacker and emphasise how “normal” he was. A privilege that is never granted to attackers who aren’t white. . Because they need to feed the story they want people to hear. . Enough. He doesn’t deserve the promotion. Just stop ✋ . Instead, highlight the victims. . The attackers were nothing to me before the attack. They are nothing to me after the attack. All I need to know is that they are brought to justice. That’s it. . The victims. The victims are EVERYTHING to me. I want to see THEIR faces and hear THEIR stories. Because “they are us”. They’re not just a statistic. They deserve to be honoured. . It hurts to see and hear about the victims, the pain becomes more real. But it should hurt, we need to feel the pain. Because these aren’t just a body count in headlines, these are lives that matter. . So to the media, ENOUGH. JUST STOP!! . Tell the stories we should be hearing, not the ones that promote a hidden agenda. Not the ones that try to justify or gloss over evil and hatred. .
