READ: There are several stages to sobering up from the intoxication of white supremacy. And much like anyone who chooses recovery, white people who do this work will never stop the process of their recovery from racism. In the first stage of recovery, there must always be a process of detoxing. And that process will be one of the hardest parts of the entire recovery process. In fact, most white people will not even consider recovery due to the mere prospect of “transformational learning”/detox. And many who attempt it will opt out of recovery from racism the moment the throes of their detoxing begins. Detox feels like fire under your skin, when you hear someone say, “all white people are racist.” Detox looks like tear-stained white faces when they no longer feel the comfort of being categorized as a “good white person”.Detox sounds like white people saying, “But I have had it hard my whole life! Nothing about my life has been privileged.” Detox will trigger defensiveness, defiance, and attempts at derailing. Fists will beat on the door and nails will scratch the walls in desperation to regain Power. The detoxing process is survived by few white people. The discomfort of this detox feels like agony, because comfort was always there — like air — so racial detox feels like actual air is being restricted. White people who are in the throes of detox will see “angry black women” and run, because they are too frail to withstand the black storm of those first many nights that come to cleanse them. But unlike every other kind of recovery a human may experience, the white person who gives up the chance at racial sobriety does not put their lives in any danger; they, in fact will be as safe as they ever were. Instead, it is countless BLACK LIVES that are threatened, the moment the white person chooses their white intoxication. #blacklivesmatter #blacklives #blm #blacklivesmatter✊ #blacklivesmatter✊ #blackgirlmagic #blackmen #blackwomen #listentoblackwomen #racism #racialjustice #racialsobriety #racism #fuckracism #stopracism #endhate #civilrights #getsober #knowbetterdobetter #socialjustice #antiracist #ally #allies #antiracism
