since quite a few asked me to explain the ending/plot twist of "the light in your eyes", I thought I would try to do so in this post. disclaimer: this post will obviously contain spoilers, so if you haven’t watched the whole drama yet and don’t want to get spoiled, then please refrain from continuing reading :) from episodes 1 to 10 we at first see young kim hye ja's daily life and then we witness how she turned from a 25-year-old to an elderly woman by using her watch too often for trying to save her father. the plot twist shows us that kim hye ja never suddenly turned old and that the watch doesn’t have magical abilities. all of those were false memories that were caused by hye ja’s alzheimer disease. (alzheimer makes a person forget more and more memories from time to time and it gets harder for the person to talk, do certain things, etc.. I recommend you to inform yourself about this disease to make it easier for you to understand the plot of this drama) the watch is actually lee joon ha's (her late husbands) with which she wanted to purpose to him back in the day. one day joon ha got imprisoned and then died because of the mistreatment he received there. the reason why he got taken in by the police is probably because of him reporting something that the government didn’t like. so with the corrupted system and all that, joon ha could easily get imprisoned. if this is somewhat hard to understand for any of you, then you need to keep in mind that this part of the story plays before the 21st century and with that the system and rules were totally different from today’s. with lee joon ha's death, she was left alone to take care of their child and kind of turned to a less joyful and more cold hearted person. later on their son gets into a car accident and loses a part of his leg which causes him to have many problems. there is a scene where he trips and hye ja tells him to stand up on his own and then she leaves without him. personally at first I thought she is too cruel but later on I understood her reasons. if she would have always helped him, he might have grown into a weak man who would have to constantly relay on his mother.(more in comments)
